First start in the morning RPM-

Did a quick search before heading to work but did not see anything.

Ok when starting my car first thing in the morning it sorta hesitates. I turn the key and once it starts it goes to about 800 rpms and it feels like it didn't start to me then it shoots to 2000 and then 1500 and I let it warm up a bit.

Is this normal. I have not seen anything like this posted here. I don't think it should hesitate as if you didn't crank it over good enough.

Cliff:
Start the car it hesitates and then goes to normal RPMS for warm-up. Never experienced this on any other car unless I actually didn't crank over good enough.

the hesitation sounds odd, but how u describe the RPM's that is normal, u should just turn the key alll the way until the car has fully started then let go. (if that makes any sense)but basically it sounds like your fine

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do keep it all the way until it is started but the same happens. I will try again later tonight when I leave work and see what happens.

when i start up in the moring it jumps right up to 2k rpm and slowly works down to normal rpm when its warm, it may be fuel related if its stumbling at start up????

It's normal for RPM's to be high, it's a way the engine can get oil pressure up and circulating.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yeah, I know its normal for the RPMS to be high for a cold engine or first start.

My problem or concern is the stumble when starting it up. You know how you quickly try to start your car and it goes but then dies because it didn't crank to well? Well mine doesn't die it goes to about 800 or 1000rpm then drops down a couple and then shoots to 2000 with the key full on.

Thanks for your help. I will prob mention to the dealer when I schedule for an oil change.
