2010 Mazda 3 hatch and now a '95 Miata!
When I bought my 2010 Mz3 hatchback, the sales guy encouraged me to have my first oil change done at the dealership, telling me that it gives them a chance to check for any problems, etc.

Now, the dealership is 65 miles from my house... not exactly convenient.

I usually do all the oil changes on my vehicles myself; always have, and that's the plan for this car as well. (While on this sub-topic, is there a list here with acceptable, readily available oil filters?)

I don't want any of the settings changed for the car.

Everything about the car seems fine to me and the dealer already saw the car once for a warranty repair of a sensor.

Now, my questions:

1. Is there a good reason for me to make an appointment rather than just do it myself?

2. What can I expect to pay for the dealer to do an oil change? One-half hour of labor?

3. Is the "check for any problems" free or at extra cost? If it's not free, then am I correct that it is not a requirement?

Thanks for your comments and help.

From experience working at a dealer ship, no there is no diffrence if you do it or they do it.I would how ever reccomend that you use mazda filters. All they do at a dealer ship on newer vehicles after the oil change is check the filters, tire pressures, tire tread depth, and fill the washer fluid thats it
