Have been leaked in the German magazine Autobild. And hey, if someone can translate it (and I don't mean the search engine translations), that'd be cool too.

Autobild article:

Spyshots:

Oh yeah, and before we go there, 100% confirmed no rotary engine for the NC.

Interesting. They were right about it maintaining the signature Miata form, yet the windsheild is a bit more 'swept'. It's really hard to tell much else from the pics. It's funny how much the wheels resemble those of the later 1.8 NA's, except with more spokes.

The wheels on that vehicle are 1st-gen Mazda Millenia rims (basically something that fits, kinda like that RX-8/Miata testmule). You won't see the real production rims until way later in the game.

I figured as much. Typically, the "new" wheels arent' used on test vehicles.

I'm on the edge of my seat as to how the NC turns out. I don't anticipate buying one, but perhaps it's the connection to the original NA's. Perhaps it's all of the hype that surrounds them, who knows. :)

pseudo translation...

This Erlknig-picture will calm the fan community of the MX -5: your open favorite remains entire the old if end of 2005 the successors comes on the streets a sportingly-knackiger Zweisitzer, with simple material roof instead of sheet metal roof and two stronger four cylinders.

The larger RX contributes the load work-8 so that trace will grow and wheel state of the cult-Roadsters (previously 700.000mal constructed) perceptible. That means for the inmates clearly more inner room, and also under the motor hood, then more place is, for the first time for a six cylinder. The front of the new Mazda resembles with sublime nose and narrow volume-floodlight also the RX-8.

And in puncto security, the Zweisitzer lands then also on current level: four Airbags, better Crash-behavior and ESP are in the new MX-5 obvious. The best message however reads: the prices should hardly climb. Unlike in BMW, that the Z4 hherpositioniert as the predecessor Z3 have, the MX should remain-5 the erschwingliche joke-car for anybody.

I dig the current model's look. Not too sure about the new Mazda Corporate face being grafted onto everyone's favorite roadster.

Thanks for the pictures.

It kind of looks a little "big" like it is trying to be like that GM Solstice convertible. I'm not so sure I'll like the RX-8 look on the Miata. The current generation is and will be a great looking style for the next 100 years.

I REALLY wish Mazda would make a blue version of the Mazdaspeed. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Another "translation"...

"This Erlkoenig picture will calm the fan municipality down of the Mx-5: Their open favourite remains completely the old, if end of 2005 the successor comes on the roads? a sporty knackiger two-seater, with simple material instead of sheet metal roof and two stronger four-cylinders.

The chassis donates the larger Rx-8 , so that trace and wheel base of the cult kult-Roadsters (so far 700.000mal built) will grow perceptibly. That means clearly more interior for the passengers, and also under the hood then more place is, first for a six cylinder. The front of the new Mazda resembles the Rx-8 likewise with raised nose and narrow volume headlights.

And in puncto security the two-seater lands then also on current level: Four Airbags, better Crash behavior and ESP are natural in the new Mx-5. The best message however reads: The prices are to hardly rise. Differently as with BMWS, which high-positioned the Z4 than the predecessor Z3 , the Mx-5 is to remain the affordable fun car for everyone."

Actually, the NC Miata is not expected to share the same corporate face as the other cars in Mazda's lineup. Mazda realizes that the Miata, much like the Corvette for Chevrolet, is recognized as an icon in its own right. I think we can probably expect some similar design cues (narrow headlights and more creased fenders perhaps), but I don't expect it to look identical to the other corporate Mazda cars.

By the way, here's a slightly better translation snagged from the pointy board:

"The new MX-5 remains a sporty two seater - but with the 'sub-frame' (?...anything directly related to the wheels) of the RX-8 and space for a six cylinder under the hood.
This prototype picture will put the fans of the MX-5 at ease: their roofless darling will stay the same when its successor hits the road in 2005 - a sporty, firm two-seater with simple cloth instead of a tin top, and two more powerful four cylinders.

The chassis frame is derived from the bigger RX-8, so that the wheelbase of the cult roadster (700,000 built so far) will grow noticeably. This means significantly more room for the (co-) driver, and also more room under the hood, enough for a six cylinder. The front of the new Mazda also reminds of the RX-8, because of the higher nose and 'thin stripe' headlights.

Regarding safety, the two seater arrives on a contemporary level: four airbags, better crash behaviour and ESP are taken for granted. The best news is: the price is reportedly raised minimally. Opposed to BMW, who positioned the Z4 higher than the predecessor Z3, the MX-5 shall remain the affordable fun car for everybody."

so do we think it's true dual? or just dual tips? Doesn't it look like there's just one muffler? Fake dual like the Mazda6. Lame.

Although fake would reduce the possibility of having a 6 cylinder, which is a good thing.
