ok well my first performance mod was my exhaust. i had a buddy do a 3" straight pipe into a tip for $70 because everywhere was like $700 for custom. we did from the pre-cat right behind the down pipe back. it sounds deep with a little rumble when down shifting and you can deff feel some added power. BUT, i was wondering if i should add the resignator for a little back pressure. i plan on getting a cai, fmic, bov, and mbc soon and upping it to 8 psi. should i keep it how how it is, because it will be fine with the other upgrades, or put the resignator back on and quiet it down a little bit. how much power will be taken from it?

why would you want to add backpressure on a turbo car?

this is my first turbo car and some one told me that 3" was to much and i should add some back pressure. so it doesnt effect your torque or hi end power? turbo power is all new to me, explain.

more pressure -> more turbo spinny

Well, thats true, but the car does need some backpressure for the torque. Depending on how much boost your running. Some may argue, but with supporting mods, anything below 12psi, a 3" exhaust is overkill. And since our engines like cooler air, why dont we just use massive FMIC's all the time. I know rotarys are different, but my buddy used a corksport 3.5" turbo back on is turboII, and he lost mad torque. But his top end was decent. Just my 2cents

sorry, adding a res. to your exhaust will do nothing for performance. I dont care if somone says differently. Maybe a few ponies if you added a cat. But other wise, go ahead, you wont feel a difference.

I want my 99 1.6 to sound like the apexi ws2 but having a full catback for more HP,dont want a deep tone..just mellow.. so which exhaust will be the best??

Thanks!

Like has already been said, add the resonator it won't take any power away just some noise. Resonators are straight through, no restrictions. I did because my ears would hurt after a long day of driving.

yea i would personally go with the resonator because as orng said they are straight-thru piping, they just deaden the sound a bit and really help with droning.

In the past ive been told that a little back pressure will help with low end torque, but it will ultimately subtract power on the high end from a turbo car. I have not heard that as a popular argument, but i will say that i fealt my car was more peppy (higher low-end torque) with the Vibrant exhaust (with a cat) than it was when i was just dumping out the bottom before the j-pipe. It was more powerful on the high end with the dump pipe, but down low it was a little slower to get going.

In all honesty though, it really won't matter that much either way. And yea 2.5" is plenty, 3 may give you an extra 2hp at 6000rpm after all your mods.

Any good cat-back for a 99' 1.6 protege that can be attached with the Apexi WS2?? i Dont want deep/loud noise, just mellow.

I need suggestions please!

Thanks!

thanks guys, im not goin with the resonator. how about the down pipe. i hear once you open the exhaust up fully, buy making the down pipe bigger, the msp is like night and day. what size down pipe should i go with?

I'll do it but those guys dont give me any hint and they get pissed when idk something.. give me any hint and i quit this thread.. i want a mellow tone.. thinking to get the apexi ws2 muffler

ok i have a very noob question why does it seem like the stock exhaust is very tame...i mean i dont care for obnoxiously loud but seems like im wanting a little bit more sound.

From my understanding... If you add the mods you explained- FMIC, CAI, BOV in combination with your exhaust.. You should be at 8psi without a mbc. Add the mods and add a good boost gauge and see where you are at once your mods are done.
Check out the group buy on the FMIC. $699 is a deal for a FMIC ready to rock. If you wait you will have to pay $799.(nervous) Check out the link.

i have to wait a little for the front mount, my wife is 8 months and lots of stuff goin on. i didnt know doin all those mods automaticaly raised the boost, thats cool, now i deff need a boost gauge. what about the down pipe? 3'' or smaller to match the exhaust? how much hp from all those mods?
