First Autocross for western PA

Well, the day started at a balmy 36 degrees and warmed to 55 at the end of the day. My first autocross in a front wheel drive. I guess I have to apologize to all MP3 folks for the moderately poor showing I gave, getting beat by 2 ACR Neons, a Probe GT and a Z24 Cavalier. In my defense, The Cavalier had sticky race legal DOT tires and the driver has been to several driving schools. As for the other cars, let me say that after racing Mustangs for 3 years, holy cow is there a difference between cars. I'll try to do better next time all.

And if anyone wants to check the results, here is the link...I hope I can do this right:

Oh and if you can get to the link, check the F.T.D. All I have to say is Holy Turbos Batman, that Supra flies!!! (yes that is turbos...plural, and far from stock)

Happy racing all!

Man, I feel ya on the ACRs. Got whooped myself by one this weekend, but it was only a tune event. I had riders on every run so I was a bit slower. Hit a cone which added 2 seconds also. Damned cones were pissing me off. Got beat by a girl in a saturn with Kuhmo 712s too. She is going to be an INSTRUCTOR at the class I am taking next weekend. She's also about 19 or 20 and she's hot. She's gonna have a rough life. (NOT!!)
Anyway, we don't have posted results yet, but when they are, they will be here .
Keep up the good work man!
Side note, did you have understeering problems? I still can't get mine to stop pushing through the power out corners. Really pissing me off. If anyone has fixed this on their MP3, let me know!

Again, good work man! Seat time, seat time, seat time. That's all we need to really get good!

Mine pushed bad at first...but it was COLD! I found a good balance at 40 psi in both front and rear. This may have to change with air temp, and road temp though. Several other racers said to try lowerint the rear to 38 or 37 to loosen it up. Also trail braking helped to lessen the push.

Oh yeah, and about the good looking instructor, don't take driving lessons from her, too many distractions!

I agree.

Drop the rear tire pressure from 40psi to even 35-37 cold and you'll get rid of a bit of the push. The MP3 also has very little negative camber in stock form. Since you want to drive it during the week and do auto-X, have an alignment shop dial in a bit of camber and the understeer will fade away.

Track temps are important though, the Dunlops work much better on a warm to hot surface.
