2014 Ford Edge AWD LTD
Car-wise, it's been interesting the last 2-3 years.

Make a long story short I had an 03 MPV for 9 years until going to a Mazda 5 GS in 2012. We then went to a 2012 RAM 1500 HEMI for 5 months of the worst communication and service I've ever had. Traded that 1500 for a 2014.5 CX-5 GT which we've had for a year now. The CX-5 is a nice car but compared to the 5, imho, it just is not the better vehicle. The 5 has better use of space plus a better ride (handling and acceleration). We pick up the 2015 5 GS with convenience pack (aluminum mica) this Monday. 8)

If the Mazda5 has better acceleration than your CX-5, I'm assuming that you ended up with a CX-5 that had the 2.0L Skyactiv-G instead of the 2.5L Skyactiv-G (155 vs 185 hp).

I had the 2012 5 GS for a year which has the 2.5L 157HP engine and weighs in at 1569KG. The 2014.5 CX-5 GT AWD we have had for a year has the 2.5L 185HP engine and weighs in at 1629KG. The 60KG or 132lbs is not a huge difference. With the CX-5 its a combination of it's stance, heavier 19" wheels and possible gearing that makes it feel slower. Every time the CX-5 accelerates there is a drone-like sound (not unlike the drone in a RAM 1500) and laggy feel to it. On hills it drops to a gear lower than it should, I found this happens a lot on any given hill or mountain.

The wait is over and I'm very happy to have a 5 again.

Immediate impressions: acceleration and driver feel are noticeably better than the CX-5 GT. 2nd row and rear space is, again, better than the CX-5.

Here it is in Aluminum Mica 8)

I kind of understand what you are describing because I drive a 2012 MZ5 GT and my wife drives a 2015 CX-5 GT FWD, but I think you are comparing apples to oranges. Both serve two completely different purposes and thus the newer generation Skyactiv engines are mainly designed with efficiency in mind not so in the case of the MZR engines. At take off I think our MZ5s do feel peppier but that could be associated to the gearing and non-Skyativ transmissions which again are geared for gas savings. However, that being said once that initial 1-2 second "lag" for lack of a better term is past, the CX-5 moves towards and past 80mph in no time and much faster and smoothly then our beloved MZ5s. The other thing that I prefer on my wife's CX-5 over my MZ5 (this is solely for those of us who have an AUTO trans) is the quickness in downshifting and get going rather then that annoying "1 second lag which gear should I downshift to?....oh yeah 3rd!" that Mazda supposedly took care of years ago. Right! Sure you did... At any rate I love my MZ5 and I would love it more if I could have gotten the GT package with a manual. But I also do love and appreciate what the CX-5 has to offer and brings to the table. Congrats again on your new MZ5 brother.

Thanks Davicho, its good to have the 5 back.

The CX-5 is different, and is a good vehical. The GT we had was loaded with a lot of toys. However, as nice as all that was, I think the 5 is more of a drivers car. I prefer the true zoom-zoom 'feel' which the 5 has and the CX-5 seems to lack.

Can't wait for the 2 week camping trip and numerous trips with our new 5! 8)
