Finally painted my calipers

Sure.... I would (and DID):
- spray them with brake cleaner to get most of the gunk off
- brush the calipers on a grinding wheel with a metal bristles wheel of it if possible (or sand them with coarse sand paper)
-use a rust converter on the calipers. rust converters help a LOT in my experience
-mask
-paint

Hope this helps........
How many coats of paint did you use?

The first coat i put was basically a dusting. I let it dry about 10 minutes, then gave another dusting. after that, i sprayed more paint and did that maybe twice....so about 4-5 coats total. You wanna make sure you paint everywhere (if possible) to discourage rust.

In Canada, you can buy a rust converter/primer at Canadian Tire or auto stores. Don`t know about the US...try auto stores. I bought mine on EBay. It`s called Picklex-20.

Thanks, I was wondering if you used spray or brush on. I have black and silver paint, hmmmmm. Will have to wait for the house to be finished being built in August:(

I'm finally going to paint mine, when the new calis, pads, and brake lines come it. If I'm doing the calipers a bright color, say orange, should I do the cali hub orange too, I'm thinking of just doing black, so it's not too bright under there!

black IMO. :D

Funny you say black. Initially I bought Folia-tec black from Protege5Gurly then changed my mind and traded the red to Ghetto Wagon for his black Folia-tec. Now I am considering painting the calipers red and the holders black or I will just paint the whole thing red or maybe paint the whole thing black or...I just need to do it!! :)

Hey there again. My brother-in-law was kind enough to hoist my car at his garage and let me do my thing. I had the rotors replaced and painted my calipers a-la-iLisa (orange, although they look very red in these pics). I'll post some other shots in a few days of the whole car.... See ya!
What kind of rotors did you install? Are the from this ***brake sale *** thread?

^Those rotors look good!

I was lazy. I didn't even bother removing the calipers to paint them... And yeah, I've since replaced the corroded '02 rims.

Man, I wish my brake dust shield looked as good as yours! Damn rust! Nice calipers!

PS: I got my rotors off Ebay. I think they came to about $140 CND and then had them cadmium plated for an additional $45.

Is the Ice cream cone part of the mod?

Still waiting on my ups shipment....hopefully I'll have new pics on Monday!

Did you have your plating done locally?

When I purchased the rotors on Ebay, I later received an e-mail asking if I wanted them plated as well. I had it done. So I didn`t have to get it done elsewhere...

^^^Yes it does! I am still trying to decide if I want to paint mine just red or go with red and black....

Go red and black like I did. It's more subtle and not so in your face with all red. Hard to see in this pic though.

Though for my 8 I decided to go all black since the car is plenty red. I also painted the rotor hats and fins, as well as the back shield. Pic before my suspension.

that's look pretty good Josh! maybe I'll do red and black now! :D

Thanks. I actually had painted them all black before adding the red. That pic was with one coat of red. I added another to make it pop more.

BTW, I paint everything with a brush and Rustolyum paint. Can't beat the price and it holds very well.
