Finally Got My Turbo Fixed Under Warrenty!

Back-story:

Bone Stock 2006 Speed6 with about 24,000 miles started smoking at idle and I took it into the dealership. First they started the usual stuff I hear around here... asking for oil change receipts and stuff.

I had some of them but not all, the ones I didn’t have I did have credit card receipts.

Either way, the short of it was they said they could try and fix it and then see if my paperwork was good enough for warranty. The only catch was that if it wasnt they would charge me full price.

Obviously, I had none of that and spent the next month or two calling and talking to various dealerships to get a idea of what to do.

It all came down to calling Mazda USA and having them light a fire under the dealers butt to get this fixed. The dealership called med back and we worked out a deal that if it wasnt warranty I would pay a maximum of $200. Yeah that sucks, but at least it was a safety blanket to cover me incase they needed to replace a turbo or engine. This might be a good option for some of you in my shoes. Maybe some things are negotiable.

I got a call today saying the car was done and low and behold the turbo was the culprit and they replaced it. Now it doesnt smoke and its ready for me to pick up. All under warranty! Horraaayy! I am looking forward to getting this problem solved.

So if you have a smoking stock Speed6, call a dealership first and try and get it sorted out if you have all your receipts. If that doesnt work, I highly recommend calling Mazda USA.

Be persistent and be respectful and you can get it fixed. Good luck to those who are in my shoes. To those who arent, keep your oil change receipts!

My MS6 is a non-smoker as far as I can tell...but she is a used MS6 and I dont have ANY of the previous owner's reciepts...could mazda pull something out of not having them?

did you open up your exhaust or are you still stock...

Bone stock.... stock exhaust.

No idea of how it works buying a used car. Your best bet is to save everything from your time of purchase and take a look at how the warrenty transfers.

Afro,

Yeah, i guess you start from where you purchase...I hope I never have to haggle dealers about SERVICE...Do enough haggling over sales price to last me until I'm ready to buy again...

Mine's going in tomorrow morning to have it looked at, hopefully I don't have too much trouble.

I agree, just be courteous and respectful and you'll probably not have too much trouble getting it fixed. Going in there and demanding repairs is just going to piss the service manager off and make him want to do even less to help you out.
