Ok so I'm close to ordering my OZ ultraeggeras. 18x8 48mm offset. I've been digging but looking for a final word on how wide a tire I can run. I want to run falken rt615's for autocross. 225-40? 225-45? or can i get away with 235-40's? I'm not interested in rolling my fenders. Suspension is stock, but may get cobb springs in the future.

^^there's no such thing!!

I have 235/40's on 18x8. Perfect balance of grip, overall diameter affecting speedo, and packaging. My suspension is stock right now but I may go with Cobb springs. Rolling fenders may not be necessary, but even if it is, you can do it yourself. And even if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself, it only costs about 100 bucks. Also, rolling your fenders to allow a wider tire does not affect your class in autocross -- you could still run in stock class depending on other mods.

I have no rubbing with stock suspension and 235's so far . However I rolled my fenders just because I didn't want to take a chance .

Word around the campfire Cobbs car is rolled with cobb stage 2 suspension r18x8 245 40's no rubbing I've been told .

I would personally buy the 235's again no doubt .

Bacarl Try the nitto 555. I too thought the same. The Bridgestones were great for th smoke show. Now I am hunting Porsche, Amg's, and their ilk. I am pretty sure that the rear fenders were rolled for Cobb due to the drop and thats ok. Oh wait a sec you are correct more Traction means : need more HP which requires more traction etc etc

currently running RT-615 tires 235/40/18 on Rota 18 x 8.0 +48e

You must roll the rear fenders tightly or it will rub like crazy

Even with my rolled fenders, I still get a rare occasional rub.

only on serious bumps, very abrupt stuff. otherwise, its good to go!

P.S.

Don't expect much tread life if you run RT-615 tires hard.

I actually wore the front set down to the tread wear indicators in ONE DAY of serious road track time. And they were installed 3 days beforehand.

P.S.2

I'm running the Mazdaspeed (red) springs and rear camber plates.

I also have Koni Yellow adjustable shocks in the rear (no height diff.) set to mid point of firmness. Probably 20-30% stiffer than stock shock bodies.

thats what i was worried about. the 615s are known for running big. looks like the 225s for me. its a damn shame lol. as for the wear. damnit man!!! I got amost 15k out of the 255 series 615's i ran on my sti. that included daily driving and half a season of auto-x. so im hoping with them in the 225 i will have no issues at all even on cobb springs?..........I so wanted to run 235's!!!! bah!!!

Not really all that big of a difference between 225 & 235. What's the big deal?
Seems like everyones so hell bent on getting 235's like it's such a big improvement over a 225... What I'm I missing?

Damn!! I thought that those ran super wide?!?!?!

I would have run those instead of my 235/40/18 Toyo T1R's on my 18x8.5 w/48mm offset 5zigen ProRacer N+ if i had known...

so 235 on stock suspension should be good....

I am running 235/40/18s on a 18x8 +45 rim with cobb springs, Cant say I have experienced any rubbing issues yet.
