No hard feelings man! I just get a little steamed when people relate EVERYTHING to Iraq! I overreacted a little and I apologize. Let's just keep on topic. Cool?:)

I am greatful for my father job. It's allowed me to get a varied perpective on life. He's a Nigerian Diplomat currently stationed in Moscow. His previous posts include Cuba and Great Britain. He travels a LOT! I don't know how my mom handles it.

He and I argue all the time seeing as he has liberal leanings and I have more conservative leanings. But I love the guy. He's actually considering trying to get employment at the U.N. I'm not a big fan of the U.N because while in principle it's a great idea but in practice it's totally ineffective so I'm trying to encourage him while at the same time pointing out my reservations to him.

At one time I myself wanted to be a diplomat but then I realized I suck at geography and political science is not my cup of tea. So I decided to try my hand at graphic design.

see i think the un is effective the thing is that countries need to stop doing whatever they want and do what is implemented, like lets say actually donate their full yearly gdp as they say they will. i can understand why you think it is ineffective but once you see it in motion and reinact it its the shizzle! um i was gonna say something else but i forgot haha

Take for example the tiny principality of Monaco. They have a KICK BUTT economy, made incredible wealth for themselves and are a gem of the international community. I'm sure there are poor people there too but at least they have opportunities to make it big.The main industries that drive their economy are: Light manufacturing, banking and financial services, shipping and trade. Research and development in biotechnology and marine environments. Tourism.

Tell me cuba could not do all of that stuff and make a KILLING doing it providing a favorable climate for it's people to prosper?
you realize Monaco is only a "country" with a land mass of .8 square miles right? I've been there and stayed for awhile in a town nearby. the main industry is tourism, light manufacturing is an incredibly small percentage of that.

Monaco got rich by having no income tax, an amazing location between France & Italy on the Riviera and, as such, was an amazing place to go if you had incredible amounts of money and ran into problems with the law of either of those two countries...

all Monaco really did was exist and continued to exist while opening its arms to the troubled/non-tax paying wealthy citizens of Europe.

Cuba could theoretically try to do the same thing but there are many Caribbean islands that already offer the same thing and with its location of only 90 miles by boat from FL, I doubt the US would accept it...

oh and btw, according to the CIA Factbook, the Monaco ecomony comes with a 22% unemployment rate... ie not exactly the rising economic star of the new world overflowing with job opportunities for the low-income people of the world unless they want to work in a restaurant, clean a house or wash something in Europe's little resort playground for the wealthy...

Es verdad lo que estan diciendo de Fidel; El corazon de Fidel va a vivir para siempre. Pronto veremos la cara de Fidel en todas las camisetas y en todos los cuadernos de todas las idiotas de este pais...igual que el Che.

Okay maybe monaco was not the best example and like you said it is a playground for the rich (whats with all the wealth envy anyways? It's not an inherently bad thing to have money), but I think you could see the greater point I'm trying to make. Cuba could flourish. Maybe not to the extent of Monaco but I think it could do very well for itself!
