In my third stage of stereo reconstructed I ended up making this box. It really just started out as a project but now has turned addiction, I now have all sorts of other glass'n ideas all over the place. The air space is a little up there for the Audiobahn's but it POUNDS inside the car, and beautifully enough, it does NOT rattle my stupid little factory spoiler. That thing rattles if you sneeze! Anyways, check it out and let me know what you think.

The great thing about this box... You can turn it around and angle the subs upward towards the glass or like it is pictures facing the door. It all depends on if you need to haul anything or not. It's more SPL facing the door, and more SQ with some SPL facing the glass.

Honestly it is really not that hard, it just takes time and patience, and an understanding that if you mess up you wasted all your time!

i like how it matches the carpeting in back, rather than the body color. makes it look much better.

As far as money goes here is the breakdown of pretty much what I paid.

Two sheets of 2ft by 4ft 3/4" MDF @ Home Depot ~9$
4ft by 6ft cut of Fiberglass Mold Fabric @ HiFi Buys ~10$
Polyester based Resin w/ Hardener @ Home Depot ~25$
Mix Bucket @ Home Depot ~1$
Brushes @ Home Depot ~4$
Duraglass Heavy Duty Filler @ Select Products ~23$
Bondo Body Filler @ Select Products ~24$
4ft x 6ft Black Carpet @ HiFi Buys ~ 5$
3M Spray Adehsive (High Temp) @ Home Depot ~ 6$

Cost of having a box that beats any prefab box and the gratification of knowing you did it yourself = 107$. Yes that may be a little expensive. But 107$ for something that looks hot, sounds even hotter, and I know I made myself, is like pocket change. Because every time I look at it and smile knowing I did that makes money seem like nothing.

agreed. plus, bad prefab boxes would probably cost only a little less, and look like absolute crap in comparison.

Honestly the Q-Logic boxes at Circuit City for a single 12 DO ACTUALLY cost about that much. And honestly I have not heard ONE sound good in a car, let alone found a customer wanting to pay that much for a pre-fab box.

yeah, i've never actually seen anyone with them...EVER...that's weird, actually. i guess if you care enough to upgrade your audio to the point where you need a box, you would know that some crappy box wouldn't sound good.

Really cool, i am looking in to doing something back there but, i haven't made up my mind yet. i have a friend that is a dealer for car auto and can get everything for me at cost. and he is going to build the box for me, but i don't know yet what i want. i know i want quality sound and not loadness...

SO long as th ebox will be carpeted, it actualy rather easy to do and not very pricy. The smell is the worst part. For a carpeted box, all you need to do is beef up the oustide fo th ebox with fiberglass matt, give it one good coat of body filler and then DA sand it once with 80 grit.

If your trying to do any painting, plexiglass, custom grills, ect. thats when things get diffucult and invovle ALOT more time and money.

I assume you ment loudness?

For you, I see........ three 8's!

Do them on the right side of the hatch and the amp on the left. (wiggle)

The 8's have a low enough prifile that they will not reduce much cargo capacity and you will retain the use of your spare tire and ability to load up large objects with the seats down.

Idealy, I would use 3 JL audio 8W3v4's and a JL 500/1 amplifier.
