Few pics of my new MS6

kinda difficult to explain.. driving around the first few days the car felt strong.. while I was careful to keep things under half throttle, you could definitely feel the rush of the turbo as it pulled past 2500rpm .. especially in 2nd and 3rd gear.. as I put more mileage on the car and started to give it a bit more throttle, things kinda left me feelins.. well kinda.. flat... tip into the throttle below 3000rpm and the car definitely pulls hard.. however accelerating from a roll on starting about 3500rpm and the car feels soft .. no matter what gear you may be in .. 4th gear and up is a slow rise to 5000rpm .... It's almost like torque peaks at 3500rpm and falls from there.. mind you, my "hobby" vehicle is an rx-7 with a gt35r putting down 400rwhp . so I may be expecting to much out of this car..

What are you calgary folks going to be doing for winter? putting it away or finding some suitable tires? ..

DEFINITELY GET SOME ICE/SNOW TIRES. I almost got into 2 accidents last winter because I could not control my car on ice. One was the northbound merge ramp from 32nd Ave to Deerfoot... someone spun out on the ramp and started BACKING ONTO THE RAMP while I was trying to merge... I could not stop, and could barely steer, so I barely made my way around him and avoided somehow bumping hips with a semi in the closest lane.

The other one was residential. Downhill slope, about a 45 degree angle to the left, needless to say gravity took over and I ended up sliding part of the way down the hill sideways into oncoming traffic. Thank goodness that the other people DID have snow tires, and were able to avoid me.

I'm currently debating on which route to take on the snow tire thing.. Kal-Tire quoted me almost $340 a tire for Blizzak lm22's in the stock size and $1500 for a set of 17" steel rims with Nokian WR's .. Sunridge Mazda on the other hand has quoted me 1700+gst for a set of 18" alloys with blizzaks and life time tire change over .. I'm wondering if I could save myself a few bucks and see if sunridge has a winter package for the mazda 6's and drop down to the 17's instead.. My worry is that they will give me a hassle purchasing them since they are not the stock size for the car.. I'm also weary about putting on a set of blizzaks, having a very mild winter and burning through them in a single season ...

any suggestions?

I got 17" steelies and Toyo Go 2+ winter tires for $1300 from Tire Lane on Center Street last year. They are amazing.

I considered the Sunridge quote last year as well. The new rims would have been nice, plus the tire change makes it appealing as well, except for the fact it's not hard to change your own tires 2 times a year.

As for going through the tires in a single season... damn... if you are worried about that, the ice this winter will be the least of your worries! ;) Just kidding. They should last at least a few seasons at least if you don't drive like a crazy person.

I have a set of black 17" steelies and Blizzaks being sent my way. Not even gonna try and make it a winter on the stocks.

Just chimeing in as another MS6 owner in calgary.. took delivery of it last weekend..

Still concidering tinting the windows.. Sunridge mazda offered to have the rear windows tinted before i took the car (they quoted me about $200) but said they would not tint the fronts .. I sometimes have the baby in the back so the tinit would definitely help keep her from getting blinded by the sun at times..

The black on white contrast will make your car look even better than it does now. Get all your windows done sans windshield, and go as dark as you are comfortable going. I went 1 step lighter than limo on mine and it looks awesome. Tinted fronts are technically illegal in Alberta; I have not been ticketed yet, then again I might just be lucky. I also drive with the windows down when the weather is nice (both weeks of it) so I might just be lucky. Basically, I think it would be extraordinary circumstances if a cop pulled you over just for tint. If you get any sort of other ticket though, chances are good that he will notice and ticket you for your windows at the same time, if he is being anal about things.

i guess i go on the hunt for some steelies this week.. ordering from tirerack is really tempting as I priced out a set of 17" alloy's with winters for $1300 shipped .. however I'm worried that they will take too long to arrive and not sure of how road hazzard warentees would work..

too much worrying.. I just gotta pull the trigger ..

BTW, you both installed CAI's . did you notice any gains aside from sound? have either of you guys experience that same kinda quirky power delivery as I noted above?

I have not noticed any power loss over time. I have noticed only gains from the mods I have done. The sound is a bonus, but you do notice the turbo spool up quicker from any of the CP-E mods. I'd also suggest that you get some sort of heat/water shield for the CAI, as it sits right in front of the driver's side wheel well. There are some slots in front of the wheel that take in a lot of water/dirt/grime and it makes cleaning the filter a pain. I assume it was like this because this is where the stock airbox gets air from, but it is not directly exposed to the splashes. I got a 1/2 heat shield from Injen and it fits awesome and protects the filter from splash damage. Makes it easier to clean the filter once that time comes around. I usually clean it every 2nd oil change.

If you decide to go CP-E for the downpipe and catback exhaust, I will advise you that even the catted downpipe makes things pretty loud. That is why I got a Magnaflow muffler stuck on the end of the pipe. Tames the noise down quite a bit, and the butt dyno didn't tell me I lost much if anything. I still have a nice tone to the exhaust.

Also, be prepared to go to Sunridge and get them to replace the turbo if you suddenly start spewing smoke from your exhaust. Some turbos in the MS6 apparently have bad seals, causing oil to leak and burn. Sunridge replaced my turbo under warranty.

Despite the unexpected noise and smoking issue, I am glad that I did everything and it's all working well now. I have more zoom than when I bought it, it sounds awesome, drives great, and I get comments on my car all the time.

Did you have the CP-e system when you took it in to the dealarship for the turbo waranty work?

I have been hoping to find a dealarship that will honor a waranty on a semi-modded car, and sunridge isnt that far of a drive from red deer, so it could be GREAT news

Yes, I had the CAI, DP, and CBE on my car when I took it in. They did not refuse warranty work because the turbo seals happen before the exhaust, and have nothing to do with the CAI. It's just that with 1 less cat and 1 less restrictive muffler, the smoke is noticeable now. I shudder to think about what some people's cars are like now with stock cats and mufflers... if the smoke causes much oil particulate build-up in those pieces, it could be bad news down the road...

Don't go to Kramer Mazda... they charged me an hour's labour for "NO FAULT FOUND" when I complained about the smoke. When I went to Sunridge, I made sure the car ran hot a few mins before I pulled into the bay, and then waited a second for it to start spewing smoke. That way they couldn't give me a NFF charge either. ;)

I had mine done at the dealership before I picked up the car, so I spent a very limited time driving the car without it. I had two test drives in the car spending about half an hour driving. So that said, what I've noticed is the cars ability to maintain torque through the higher gears. Even in six rolling on the gas at 120k, the car has pull, and lots of it. I didn't notice it on the test drives. If you'd like, send me a PM and I'll toss you my cell number. I'll let you give 'er a run and you can see for yourself. I'd be curious to know how much (if any) gains I got by putting it in.

Steef, where'd you get yours? I've been concerned that this will be a problem in the next couple weeks when the snow starts to fly. We NEVER get a halloween without snow...

I bought mine from Speedtech Racing Development on 32nd Ave NE. It was about $50. It's a 3" Injen Chrome heat shield. Pretty easy to put on, and I'm glad I did it too. The one side of it just gets CAKED with crap, it's unbelievable. I'm sure it affects how the engine breathes over time. It's also slightly dangerous, if you were to go full throttle through a puddle and suck some moisture into the engine.

I got quoted at $1100 for 4 18" Blizzaks at Trail Tire. Gonna put them on my stock rims and get new rims for my stock tires in the spring.

Seeing we got alot of Wild Rose Country people here, anyone find the cops around here a pain in the ass? especially in Red Deer??? I bought a new Speed 6 in Calgary took it to red deer around 6 in the afternoon, 12 the next day i got pulled over on McDonalds parking lot and made take the tint outta my front windows and was gonna get a $600 ticket but let me go with the fine after

Wow. That sucks, Drover. So far I haven't noticed any particular bias towards me and my car. The only ticket I got was for me being a dumbass, so I can't hold anyone responsible but myself. The tint thing sucks for sure. I have been lucky not to have been noticed.

I've heard some pretty bad stories of cops making people peel off their tint with their fingers on the side of the road here in Edmonton. But I also have a lot of friends that have never had a single problem. I'm debating how dark to tint my front windows actually.

I must of ran into a cop that was having a bad day, when he came up to my car he tapped on the window with a paint scrapper, and when he drove off he shouted at me and said enjoy the new car which made me even more pissed off, felt like giving him the finger(fuoops)
