I see plenty of posts these days disparaging MBCs, and especially MAP clamps. Why the change of attitude? They used to be looked on as a great way to inexpensively squeeze a few more ponies out of these cars. Is the problem limited to people who get greedy and try to use them to make too big a gain without a proper tune or are they being looked on as dangerous, period?
I have seen posts in the past by members who generally seem to know what they are talking about who have stated that an MBC with no MAP clamp at all can safely be used to push the boost up one or two psi. This small an increase is supposed to be minimal enough that the ecu will make the necessary adjustments on its own. Is this still considered to be true?
I have an MBC that I have never gotten around to putting in and I`m thinking of doing so to squeeze out a little more power (not a lot, I am not crazy). Where I live, 91 octane is hard to find, so 93 gets run by default. I might as well take advantage of those extra points, right?
