favorite metal bands

Not a huge metal fan but I do listen to everything to 'broaden my horizons' or however you want to say it.

Rammstein
Tool
Static-X
All the 'classic' metal (Metallica, Pantera, etc. etc)
Lacuna Coil (not really metal)
Luca Turilli (some crazy s***...hard to find)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

1.Slayer
2.MachineHead (The earlier stuff)
3.Pantera
4.Old Metallica
5.ShadowsFall--Only heard a few songs, but they sounded pretty cool
My band played with Shadows Fall when they came to Houston a while back. They were good. Here's my list in no particular order.

1. Dillenger Escape Plan
2. Slip Knot
3. Poison the Well
4. Deftones (Around the Fur)
5. Canderia
and many others......(rockon)

All yoou guys that are listing slipknot and not Mudvayne do realize that is a big mistake. While i like slipknot they do not compare to the talent of mudvayne. Slipknot has like 3 times the people and are still not as good as mudvayne. They are on of my favorite and way better than slipknot.

Manowar (have been to their concert, was deaf for 3 days) Never again...
AC/DC (not metal really)
Children of Bodom (their solos rule)
Aria (a great russian band) - i have a bunch if anyone interested
nighwish
karma
iced earth
early metallica definately
Deep Purple (not too metally but still awesome)
Ramstein
Stone temple pilots (not too metally but still great)
Black Sabath
And Many Many more i forgot

i know im going to forget some but here goes:

1. tool (of course)
2. linkin park (highly underrated; they will be around for a LONG time, unless they break up)
3. sevendust (first 2 albums and part of the 3rd)
4. mudvayne
5. disturbed
6. metallica
7. godsmack (the first album was the s***)

.....................will post more when i think of them

AC/DC are so metal...Angus Young is a true hero(headbang)
And noone has mentioned Motorhead...Lemmy is God!

Blood Duster
Groinchurn
Total ******* Destruction
Dillinger Escape Plan
S.O.D.
and don't forget Mercyfull Fate

I love the variety that has been listed, but Suprised that In Flames hasnt been mentioned. They reaffirmed my faith that real metal still lives, even if its only in Sweden. ;)

Lola, you beat me to In Flames ...

i'd have to say ... Classic stuff like Metallica Megadeth Pantera Ozzy and i love In Flames, Iced Earth, i kinda like some Linkin Park song since i saw them last summer at the Summer Sanitarium Tour, Rammstein rulz too ... different stuff like Nightwish, Gamma Ray, Helloween, and of course ... the masters ... Iron Maiden =)

oh and i also admire Apocalyptica

there's like a million more ... but i can't name em all

i guess its a matter of opinion, but anyway, when slipknot released their 1st cd, i bought it right away and saw them live and thought they were awesom. then one day, a friend of mine told me about mudvayne and made me listen to their cd. although its not too bad on cd, i saw them live last year twice (i went to the Sanitarium Tour twice, Montreal and Toronto) and i wasnt too too impressed. It sounded more like noise than music, compared to that time i went to see slipknot which was just amazing. They have more people on stage, but most of them are just there to give a show. like the 2 percussionists. Slipknot's songs are not musical masterpiece a la Iron Maiden (or whatever band you like) but i thought they were more entertaining and sounded better live.

but that's just me =)

well thats basically all that this thread is about, what you like. im glad to see it hasnt turned into a flamewar over certain bands being considered 'metal.' i personally dont like to berak music down into individual classes (ie, metal, alternative, etc). if it rocks(rockon) thats all that matters

See the borders are to thin. I know people who classify deep purple as metal and some that say they are not. AC/DC is definately up there however my personal thing is to call them heavy rock'n'roll. But that's just me. AC/DC are great however.

Well, in 2004 compared to Cannnibal Corpse or Slayer, AC/DC or Deep Purple don't seem very Metal, but in 1978, these bands where as heavy as it got. That's why us old coots still think of them that way. Don't forget the first band to use the term "Heavy Metal" was
Steppenwolf. I don't think many people would think of them that way. You can hear Steppenwolf on the Lite Rock stations these days.

...not in order:

slayer
metallica (everything up to "...and justice..."
mastodon
sepultura
black sabbath (only the first 4 albums)

My thoughts exactly - you beat me to the punch. Growing up in the eighties meant lots of hair bands that were considered metal that today are just classic rock. IMO AC/DC - Back In Black (first). That album rocks.

Listened to White Lion - Pride the other day. I had fond memories of that album for some reason. I should have left it to mere memories. They suck(ed).
