Fastest FWD?

well if the cobalt ss/tc is anyhting like the ss/sc.. then we can mod the speed3 to much more power than the cobalt even with the limited suppliers

The SS/TC is MUCH more than the SS/SC was. Keep in mind direct injection, and the turbo makes 260hp/tq. The supercharger was rated at only 205...

Mod for mod, the Cobalt and the MS3 will be strikingly close :)

Before i got my MS3 i drove the cobalt.. I was not impressed at all. The blow off valve wannabe made me embarrassed every time i switched gears. The only plus was the sunroof which i desperately wish was available on the MS3.
 
AFAIK, MS3 is electronically limited to 155 in most countries anyway. I've seen reports of 170+ without the limiter, bone stock.
 
There's the new Renault Megane R26.R. It doesn't have more HP than the Speed3, but it's lightened, and laps the nurburgring in 8min17s.

i think he meant just straight top speed from the factory

I might be wrong on this, but when I looked at it, the best that C&D got in the cobalt is 0-60 in 5.4 and 1/4 in 14.0, that is also the best that they got in the Mazdaspeed3. The strange part about that is that the cobalt was using launch control and no lift shift. So without those gadgets, i would argue that the Mazdaspeed3 is faster in a straight line. But who cares, the Mazdaspeed3 has much better quality inside and out. Plus the cobalt looks SOOO freaking boring.

I drove the Cobalt SS before getting my MS3, too. I've said it on other threads, if all I cared about was bombing around like Speed Racer, I would've picked the Cobalt, but I don't and the MS3 is a nicer car.

I've seen the Cobalt SS and the Saturn Redline version at the track. 14.20s-14.30s@101 from both of them. With their no-lift-shift setup, they're easier to driver fast than a MS3, but with a compentent driver I'd give the MS3 the nod by a little bit in a real drag race. The Cobalt SS would probably pull away slowly from a roll.

Stock, I think its a drivers race with the edge going to the SS but the Ecotec is a much stronger engine and will be alot faster than the MS3 when mods come into play... still wouldnt take one over my MS3 though.
 
I just got back from blockbuster, I saw a Cobalt SS in the parking lot. Not to bash it or anything, but the rear disc's are just pathetic, the are skinnier than the V-brakes I had on my bike as a kid.
 
I tried to find it but am having trouble. C/D had a video of a Speed on the Autobahn, without the limiter. Top end was I believe 160.

its faster yes, but still has cheap bad .. well everything.. the interiors of corvettes are nothing special at all.. chevy always goes cheapo on everything, even there performance vehicles

At two-and-a-half times the price, it should give you a hummer while you drive, too!

And you'd better be able to drive it against a couple-of-bolt-ons-and-some-tires MS3 or it would steal your fortune cookie... ;)

im sorry... did you NOT buy a mazdaspeed 3? are you not plagued with the stero/dash squeeking the rest of us are?

are you not putting up with the windshield also making noises in cold weather?

did you not have to tighten the stock RSB because of the loose nuts that caused it to make awful noises when going over small bumps?

did you not buy a mazdaspeed with a paper thin coat of paint?

get the **** off your high horse. we all have a mazdaspeed 3 cuz its quick and CHEAP. Made with CHEAP parts.. sure, its a quick car, but its still CHEAP.

other than the seats, the rest of the car is as "cheap" as the cobalt ss.
