Oh, and I bet that don't have AWD! :)

I wonder what the BOV sounds like

Since the Bonneville Salt Falts became un-usable for unlimited runs a few years back, the Black Rock Desert in Utah is the best, smoothest, longest place for the ultra-high speed runs. But; back in the heyday of the early '60s when Art Arfons, and Breedlove were exchanging blows at Bonneville; one time, Craig Breedlove's (original) Spirit of America had a very nasty accident. A very historic event, actually. At over 400mph, the chutes failed, and then the brakes. The 'Spirit' went into a skid that lasted over 6 miles. It is documented in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest skid marks in history. The 'Spirit of America' launched off of an embankment, and while in the air, Craig popped the canopy. The 'Spirit' landed in a large pond area of Salt water, first skipping off the surface, then sinking 18 ft. deep. Craig nearly drowned. He panicked, and after releasing his harnesses, forgot the air mask he was wearing. When he surfaced, the rescue team found him on the bank of the pond. He simply said; "For my next act, I'm going to set my self on fire"

Yes. That actually happened.

The original 'Spirit of America' was rebuilt, and was placed in the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago. The last I heard, it is still there; along with a video of that historic crash.

"The wildest ride" ends in 18 feet of salt water after setting a new record of 526.27 MPH.

On November 15, 1965, the Sonic 1 set a new LSR of 600.601mph which stood until 1970, when the Blue Flame broke that speed.

The vertical tail fin was installed after it was discovered the car was unstable without it. Yeah! It looks more like a jet fighter than a car.
