faster than dad: mp3 turbo now!

heyo. I'm new to the forums, new to this car in particular (mp3) and in general new to cars. Heres my experience so far:
-I'm 16. Im invincible, and can do anything I want
-I have replaced the water pump on a 1990 chevy suburban 454, which involved climbing INTO the engine almost
-I've replaced the valve cover gaskets on aforementioned suburban
-I think I'm experienced (I'm not)
So Ive been looking to cut the number of cylinders in half, double the acceleration and turn radius, and go holy-s*** fast around corners.
and to prove that I can beat my dads 23000$ BMW 528i in under 20 Gs. For starts, I figured a car that can handle real good off the block would be good. The MP3 tied with the porsche 911 turbo on slaloms at 70.something mph. thats holy-s*** fast. So now, how much would I have to spend to get a turbo with reasonable boost (13-16 psi) and modify the engine for full time use of that turbo, (all the time for commuting and such), including all the components? Bring on the forged steel, cause I'm ready. List your turbocharged dreamlist, so I have somewhere to start in my nefarious plans.

for starters....your dads' BMW 528i only cost $23K? How old is it? My brand new Mazda 3S was $21K (msrp). A BMW 5-series usually start in the $40's. Either way the 2.8L 6cyl is a dog. The cars are too heavy for such a small motor. You could possibly beat him like you are. I know my 105whp P5 with a header and intake outran the 325ci on the interstate.

p.s. you've got a lot of learning on the protege to do before you start making big plans. This motor is not real boost freindly. Plan on spending on a lot of money for a forged motor and a decent turbo kit. If it were me I'd just buy some basic bolt-ons and be happy with what I've got. Start saving your money for a REAL fast car. For what you'd invest in a forged motor and turbo kit you could probably keep the mp3 stock and buy a weekend racer like a turbo miata for fun.

The thing that makes the MP3 so desirable, in my opinion, is that it comfortably seats four, and it already has kickass suspension, brakes, and all that. Seriously, how much can it cost to bust out that steel engine, or will knowing the actual figure shatter my dreams? Inline fours are all the rage, getting one of those would be cool. How much would it seriously cost? just so i have a number.

My dads BMW is one of the slightly older ones (1-3 years) that he found an unbelievable deal on. He wouldnt get a ferrari or something, but i mean come on, hes old.

The car is worth about $10K...a forged motor is roughly $2300+ and a decent turbo kit is $3600-4000. So you're looking at investing almost $7500 into a $10K car.....

Plan on spending about 10k to fully forge the motor and then turbo it with proper management. Seriously. Welcome to hell.

Like I said....stick to small blt-ons and buy something else. You can get turbo'd miatas for $3500+ all day long...I've seen a few miatas selling in the $1K range....excellent car to tweak and modify...

Ummmmm....

There's a guy I met once... damn what's that guys name.... Was it Carrol Shelby? No, that's not it... Jack Rousch? No... Damn what is it... OH YEAH!! Mario Anrdretti! He's like 65 and he owns something like 15 Ferraris. And he occasionally even drives 100 mph+ Cart cars just for the hell of it. Old people like to go fast too my little friend.

Sorry, I just dont like it when old people are all classified as "slow" just because they are old. And you dad has some wierd taste in cars if he has enough money to buy a Stallion and settles for a middle of the line bmw.

Anyway, get set to spend way more than what the MP3 is actually worth (figure 8-12K) to get the "daily driven" 13-16 psi you're looking for. Do some research on the site (search button, top of the screen) before you start spending your money.

Miatas are way too small. I cant close the door and take my foot off the clutch at the same time. Sucks to be big sometimes.

here's the thing, if your only goal is to out do your dad acceleration wise then you could do it without forging the motor. a kit with 6-7 psi will put you in the 14's if you aren't a bad driver, and the best late model 528i 1/4 mile time I could find was low 15's...

I personally would still spend the money and do it right, getting forged internals, building it al up, running a higher level of boost. in fact I AM doing just that... but like I said, if that is your only goal then you could get out with a bargain with the MP3

nah, no pics.. its FRIGGEN COLD! and I'm not about to stand around that shop now... it was friggen 6* this morning.... on sunday it will be back up to normal in the 50's, maybe then.... but really I'm waiting on parts, and I've told Beau to not ship them till after the 1st cause no one is at work till then (where I have everything shipped)

better off buying a used wrx...
thing is he alrady owns the mp3.... and like I said, if that is his ONLY goal then the difference in price vs a WRX would be more than a budget turbo kit on a mp3...

so....

Why dont you buy an mp3 already turboed or just buy a protege es or 5 that was turboed and get a suspension kit that will outhandle the mp3 and also an lsd. That will definetly run you less then doing it all yourself and also it will be cheaper even if you have to make a couple of things right.
