Farking dealership screwed my oil change

Yes I have one
Had my first oil change done two weeks ago and had noticed that there was a slight smell of oil since. I assumed it was just some spilled oil. Well today I went out on break and noticed something oily on the bumper outside the upper grill. Popped the hood and yup you guessed it. They forgot to put the ******* oil cap back on. So I have been driving around for almost two weeks with it off. The engine bay is covered in oil. I kinda feel stupid for not checking it earlier after smelling the oily smell. But I have had that happen before where they spill a little on the manifold, or when removing the filter.

Just called the dealership and they want to have it towed over. They are gonna redo the oil change, replace the cover and detail the car. All that doesn't matter. It is the fact that they ****** up like that. Needless to say that is the last time I will be taking it there for anything. Incompetence really pisses me the hell off.

Wow, it's amazing what these dealers will do. Hey look on the bright side...they shouldn't have to special order your oil filler cap. It has been the same design since the 80's. Hell, my '82 and '91 Mazda RX-7s used the same cap as the 2001 Protege.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune...The tech responsible for that **** up will probably get a strip tore off him for shittin' the bed.

REALLY. Then I guess it's a common ritual for dealerships to do this on our first oil change. This freakin EXACT thing happened to me as well!!! Yep, first oil change given free from my dealership.

The good thing was that when I reached home (after 5 miles), I just felt like opening up the hood to see if they have done a clean job. And holy cr@p! The oil cap was sitting on the engine and not screwed back! Luckily there wasn't that much oil that splashed out. So I cleaned it up and bi@atched to the dealer.

They told me that they will come and tow the car back and re-do it. But there's no way in HELL that am I going to let those greasy monkeys touch my car again... so no thanks and good bye forever!

Well I just went out to check the oil level and found the oil cap. The ******* flunkie stuck it right up by the radiator cap jammed up almost under the intake area. Looks like it didn't lose too much oil, but I'm worried about anything that might have got down in the engine. Also the under hood insulation barrier is covered in oil, so they will be replacing that if they like it or not. My loaner car is gonna be a 626. Don't know how bad or good that is but I'm going to a concert in Baltimore on Sunday so it'll get a good run.

And Douggie this was my first free oil change too. It won't be going back to them again.

I work at a Dealer Ship not saying which one..lol

And it does happen from time to time.. I mean hey I have done it to $80,000 car and I was b**** at but life went on ..all I am saying is don't always blame the Dealer Ship...Blame the techs sometimes...Sometimes its best before leaving to check it out I know you shouldn't have to but Sometimes it pays if you love ur car

Yeah I'm sure they would do that. I ended up with a green 626 with bad tan interior. Gawd I hate tan interior almost as bad as driving an autotragic.

Was your first oil change also free like Douggie's?

I guess they just want to keep all those free oil change people away :D

Sounds like they use the free oil change to show the wonderfull crafstmanship and quality of work they do. I just got my oil changed at Wal-mart on my civic tonight. They were told to put in synthetic mobil one. They charged me for synthetic mobil one. They used mobil drive clean. I was ready to start my car when I luckily looked down at the oil container with the left overs sitting on the passanger floor. I marched right back in and told them what happened and told them to state it on the new ticket what happened, just in case. Not sure what could of happened if I had drove on the freeway home. I know its not good to go back to regular oil when you have been using synthetic. So moral of the story, anyone can screw up an oil change.

Beat the living snot out of the 626. Screw that, I work on cars but I wanted to have the dealer do my 1st, I didnt have the time. I popped the hood right in the lot, even before I started the thing. The guys in the shop were looking like " oh s*** did I forget something?" Too bad they didnt.

Maybe, but damn, that's just an oil change which takes like, what, 10 min? Imagine asking them to do the rusted rotor hub TSB stuff? What kind of stunt are they gonna pull for that service? And that's why I didn't bother getting it done even that i have totally rusted rotor hubs (i mean TOTALLY -- there's no rust ONLY in the areas where the pads touch the disc while braking).

LOL. While it is in getting their ****-up fixed I am getting my rusted rotor hubs taken care of. Wonder if they can screw that up. Funny thing is I came in at a good time. The service manager was in a meeting with a regional Mazda rep. They both were going to personally look at my problems when they were done. The oil change incident, the rusted rotor hubs and the bad quality of the paint (chips, swirl marks etc.).

LOL. I'd check if ALL the lug nuts are back in nice and tight before driving off. :D

And make sure you check them right in front of their face! :D

LOL. I can visualize you in dark shades holding up a newspaper with a hole cut in it so you can spy on those grease monkeys. :D

But still it's a good idea to check your car before driving off. Just pop the hood, check if the oil cap is back in, check the dip stick for the oil level and look under the car for drips.

Of course the best is still to do your own oil changes. It's not as hard as it seems. If you have any questions, just post it here (actually do a search first, otherwise the mods will hunt you down (gun) ). Since you have 2 P5s, just order a dozen or so Mazda OEM filters online to save shipping. You can save up quite a lot in the long run. Not to mention you know 100% what you put in your car (synthetics, regular oil) and what kind of filter you use. For the oil change places to make profit, it's no surprise that they compromise the quality of stuff they use.

Oh I would NEVER go to Jiffy Lube or any other quickie lube joint. About 9 years ago Jiffy Lube put oil in my 94 Sentra that ended up having metal shavings in it. Ended up throwing a rod right through the block. They had to pay for a brand new engine. Another JL got oil all over the seat of my 95 Grand Prix and then gave me attitude when I told them I wanted it cleaned. Yet another local lube joint left the oil cap off a friends car. We were riding down the road and oil started coming up all over the windshield. They denied leaving it off and were going to refuse to do anything until I threatened reporting them to the BBB and any news organization that would listen. Got the oil changed again and a full detail. Still don't trust any of them.
