Im pretty pissed cuz it seems like the DVD that came with my car is 2 versions behind the current update. I bought my car in 2008 so i think the dealer ripped me off. Does anyone here have the newest updated DVD?

The newest code on the disc should read:

No. GP9A 66 DZO "E"

My code is:

No. GP9A 66 DZO "C"

....so go get the newest version from the dealer? Just because you don't have the absolute newest update doesn't make the entire satnav package a worthless option.

I rather buy a Tom Tom for around $100+ than get a navi option in a car for $1500-2000. AND I can take it with me to any car I want and when I travel. :)

I'm pretty happy with my factory navigation. I plan at some point to get an input box for the screen so I can plug either a DVD player or Magden gauges or something into it. I just like the feel of the flip-up screen built in to the car as opposed to a separate system.

oem navi is s***. no bluetooth, no touchscreen, no fm or msn traffic. outdated maps. fooking expensive too.

waste of money.

Most OEM nav systems cost more & offer fewer features than aftermarket units, regardless of whether we talk about portables or in-dash units. I'm sure the price for optional nav systems will come down in the next few years, since everyone & their mother has gotten a portable nav in the last 2 years or so.

Only major advantage to OEM nav systems is that they always look like they belong there. Of course, in-dash nav/stereo units often look appropriate as well, but you give up that portability factor. Pros & cons to all options, I suppose.

Bluetooth is another feature most manufacturers ass-**** you for. Once it becomes more ubiquitous, prices on that'll come down to competitive levels, too.

Unless Congress decides in their ultimate wisdom that you have to have your jaw wired shut to drive a car safely...

im curious what version of the DVD everyone has right now?

i got my car in 2008 and its a version C. I want to make sure thats the version other people have. So for those of you who bought the OEM navi could you please eject the DVD and just look at the last letter of the serial code on the DVD.

THANKS

I'm waiting for cell phone nav (Blackberry, iPhone, etc.) that is just as good as the standalones and reroutes based on real-time traffic conditions. Until then, printed Google Maps it is for me!

I had version C in my car (bought december 07). I got version E and noticed ZERO difference. If you really want it you can get it over on the msf forums after donating $5 to become a vip member.

I can make you a copy of the revision E dvd. Shoot me a PM, I've been doing this for a lot of people over on m3f.

I went from rev B to E and a lot of new streets showed up around my house so it was definitely worth it for me.

most cars regardless of model year may or may not have the latest DVD maps. my friend bought a brand new prius in 2004 with built-in nav and the 1st thing the sales person said was to bring it in for a dvd update. cost: $200. of course they learned there was a TSB on the nav, so they decided to wait to do the TSB and have them update the dvd for free at the same time. of course they dont notice a difference so being a version or 2 behind isnt that big of a deal. if you live in an area constantly making major changes to its roads and traffic pattern, ie washington dc metro area, you'll learn that the "lastest" version is at best 6mo. - 1 year behind anyway.

no way in hell would i ever fork down $2k for mazda navi. you can buy a truckload and a half of maps for less $, and these days there's mapquest, yahoo, you name it. always thought navi was a good way for stealers to jack up the price, ain't playing that game.

Navi works well if you are unfamiliar with an area and are detoured a lot or have multiple stops as it will keep you going no matter what.

I also agree/know that areas change so drastically now that updated DVD's are almost never going to be as accurate or detailed as one would like.

Bought my car 2009 MS3 in November 1st 2008 it has the No. GP9A 66 DZO "E"
