What's the sad face for? They're totally right. It's not that hard to copy it to another server that doesn't mind you using up their bandwidth, i.e. photobucket etc.

Yeah, I understand the issue if we were selling the images, but in some cases (like in these forums) this action attracts a good audience to their web site. Example: I see a nice car pic then I right click on it and see where it comes from and go to their site. In addition, as you can see, most of the posts with pics provide a hyperlink to the original site so you visit them for further details (I do that a lot). That is free marketing for the site originators, nothing else...

Dear WorldCarFans.com:
We are under the assumption that if you didn't want people to hotlink to your pictures, you would simply take measures to disallow it. A tutorial is provided here http://underscorebleach.net/jotsheet/2004/11/stop-image-hotlinking-tutorial-htaccess-apache.

Also, We attempted to look at your Terms of Service but the text was soo darn small. What we did see made no statements against hotlinking to images hosted on your site. If we are misguided, let us know.

Lastly, you should consider doing like everyone else that host popular pictures on the interweb. Put your logo on the pic and enjoy the free advertising.

Good Day

Although our site is hosted in canada and thus not bound by US or Finish (where worldcarfans.com is located) we do out best to comply with the outcome of A&M vs Napster in that we will remove copyrighted material when notified of its location by the owner of said material..

thanks.

Thanks for the useful copyright info and the message sent to those guys katsmp3. You learn something everyday!

yeah. so when napster got sued the judgement was that they weren't responsible for knowing what was copyrighted but were responsible for taking it down when the owner declared.. that's why they went under.. since they were a peer-to-peer network, they couldn't control content that users shared.

This is how Youtube applies the copyright stuff also.. Thats what all the talk is about the viacom (spelling) letters is about..
