Extended Warranty

Did anyone opt to get the extended warranty on the CX-9?. If so, how much did you pay? and any details... (length Year/Miles) what does it cover etc.

Thanks

I didn't buy one, but of course the finance office tries to push one on each buyer. They stayed away from the Mazda program and pushed an independant company. I have the flyer, but the extended ran around $2000 for a 75k w/$50 deductible if I recall.

I bought one. Have never done it, but I decided to this time. We put on 20,000 miles/year and generally keep vehicles 3-3 1/2 years. My dealer only offers the Mazda program, FYI. I upgraded from the standard 36 months/36,000 to 48 months/75,000 for $1212 w/$200 deductible. This was about $300 below the original quoted price. I negotiated to the $1212 price. There is just so much to go wrong on this car, and I guess I don't trust it all. You may ask, why did I buy it, then? Good question ;-)

P.S. It's the full bumper-to-bumper - just like base warranty. Doesn't cover tires, etc. I checked to make sure it covers sway bars and a couple dozen other misc. items that I have seen go bad on cars in that mileage range. I went with the high deductible to bring the price down by a couple hundred. Also got lifetime car washes as part of negotiation, which theoretically is worth $150. In my mind it was worth about $75-100. So the way i figured it I got the 48/75,000 for $1125 w/$200 deductible.

with a $200 deductible it wouldn't make sense to claim most items. I would think you would have been better off without a warranty. That would only cover high cost items.

Yeah, I talked that over with my wife. Based on my experience, I'm more worried about things like a transmission module, nav system, the new Ford engine itself, etc. The complicated stuff that will be > $1000, often well beyond. Analogous to a catastrophic health care policy.

One more thing, if it helps with more details for other buyers - I checked my notes - the $100 deductible was about $200 more.

Those prices are indeed a couple hundred cheaper than what I paid. I suppose I could cancel and then get one elsewhere. It says full refund within 30 days.
