Exhaustive Doom III Benchmarks

Yeah why the hero Marine has no clue how to tape or wire a flashlight to a gun is just ridiculous...and it really gets corny where you had to escort that punk with a lantern through some corridors..."don't let me die, because I am the only one with light"...Why can't you just shoot that scientist, and take his lantern? the lantern is way brighter than your flashlight, but I guess it takes a UAC certified scientist to use it properly...I let him die before the end...and the lantern goes out or breaks or something...I was pissed....

Thats stupid...and thats the sort of s*** I was talking about earlier...WAY too many feeble attmepts to scare you...Don't get me wrong its creepy, but purposely not allowing you to hold a pistol in one hand and a flashlight in the other is just to make you helpless in the dark...Being helpless in dark hallways isn't scary, its just annoying and time consuming...and trying to wack a zombie with that crap flashlight is about as affective as pissing on them...

Wait till you get the chainsaw...and use that as the flashlight, thats what I do...if you are in the dark and can't see s***...wip that thing out...it won't light anything up any better, but if something trys to get in front of you, you'll no it...
You hit the nail on the head man.

Another thing, why in the @#$@ do games do this: At some point in the game for whatever reason, you lose EVERYTHING. Every weapon you have found and accumalated...GONE. Jesus I hate that.

and another thing, this game better not, for the love of god get game of the year. I mean it's good, and the gfx are some of the best ever, but it's not great, and has SOOOOO many things about it that are annoying and cheesy it's lame at times, and it's about as innovative gameplay wise as .......can't think of any example bad enough so fill in you own ___________. I can see it now though, all those review sites and magazines that keep saying, "we don't base games on just great graphics alone, we want gameplay", they'll be the 1st ones to give this goty.

Come on Half life 2! Hurry up.

I hear ya! What is it with developers and having to put spiders in every damn game? No worse then a certain "other game" (former id employee made it) and having nothing but frogs everywhere. Diakatana was it?

But, the thing that is driving me nuts at this point, besides the dumb ass flashlight idea, are IMPS. Open door, shoot IMP as at jumps at you, walk half way across room......IMP, run around shooting that imp and another imp shows up.....open next door and repeat.

YAWN. Any REAL gamer that has played a lot of REAL games.....seems to hate or dislike doom 3. The casual gamer that has never seen or played really good games, they seem to love doom like it's the next coming or something. I'm in the middle, I don't hate it, hence I'm playing it, but I often ask myself why am I putting myself through this misery? I still have to go back and play pandora tomorrow yet, and I am hoping I'm close to the end of this thing. I put a lot of games on hold for a few months as I was waiting for my new pc, I think Icould be spending my limited spare time playing better games honestly.

I'm only playing it because I've owned and played every one of them.. doom, doom 2, doom ultimate, quake, quake II, quake 3 arena, Doom 3...

nowhere, trying to finish this pos before playing it. I'm just past sector 3 after killing "you know who" . Trying not to spoil the plot for others, but you know who has tank tracks for legs. I wonder how much further I have :(

yeah man....It always seemed like same s***: different room...It does get a little better from delta labs 4 and on...far from great, but pretty good for a single player game...

I like the whole turning red thing...thats new and creepy, and the voices coming on and random rooms bursting into flames...the hole "hellish" stuff makes it different than most games...

But yeah, the imps can suck it...every where you go, dumbass imp...you will get to those pain in the ass Nazi helmet wearing things with a damn tongue as an arm too...they suck...they just reach across the room and lick you or something, and it hurts because he is from hell...

I hate s*** waiting behind doors...it was cool in the first level...but after the 175th time in level 2, it sucks...Those spider things are a disgrace...they have bad sound affects and jump at you and are easy to kill...they suck and I hate them...I love the hellknights though, and the pinky demons...those are manly monsters...and those ****** up flys with baby heads...thats disturbing and I will allow it...the Mancubus things sound awesome, but don't melt and look all awesome when they die like they did in Doom2...the lost souls are actually scary...the first time I saw one (I won't give it away) it truely made me stop for a bit...the screams and white eyes and weird mouth did me in....the Cacademon wannabe things are ok...So don't get me wrong, I like some of the enemies...But the most you will see are imps...the whole way through the game, they are everywhere...redundant and annoying...

Now my absolute biggest complaint is the weapons...and if you haven't gotten all the weapons yet, don't worry...there is absolutely no new weapon that you haven't seen anyway...Now I understand ID's intention was to retell the original doom story, and maybe that is why there is not a single new weapon except for the smg and flashlight...(and grenades???? come on...)...but I could care less about the original story if it meant we get something new...and its not like the BFG 9K was only in the doom series, it has been in everything ID has made except Quake and Wolfenstein...and Q3 got a BFG 10k...whatever

But its ridiculous...the plasma gun looks cooler than ever...but the BFG is as old as I am...why does Id do this? Quake 2 had the exact same weapons...except you had a launcher to throw grenades, a rail gun, and a hyperblaster (which shoots, you guessed it...charged plasma...but in slender penis size rather than the standard glowing blue balls)...

Doom3 has a chaingun too...thats new...shotgun? nice...a rocket launcher, never in my life did I see that coming...That soul cube thing is neat, but you can only use it after you use the other lame ass weapons to kill 5 identical creatures...luckily there are 6 imps around every corner...

I be ranting now...the truth is, I simply don't care for single player games especially "scary" fps's...too much staged stuff...IMO Max Payne 2 is a far better single player experience, with much better acting...hopefully d3 multiplayer will take off and get popular, and I have yet to try it...But what will there be fore a sniper rifle? there isn't a rail gun or anything like that for pickin' people off...who knows...

I'm so very glad there is not sniper rifle like device. That was the one thing I really hated about the latest multiplayer stuff. You'd have soooo many people who would just hide or camp and shoot you from across the map. That to me is BS and isn't a deathmatch. If you are playing a game like Rogue Spear that's another thing, and is the point. But not in a game where you are constant respawning and getting picked off before you even get to have more than your fists.

lucky you guys. i cant even play the game right now. i got a copy of it. but when ever i try to start it it just pops up with an error telling me to "eject, re-insert cd, press ok, and restart application." it wont even start for me. its on my laptop the specs are

2.8ghz Pentium 4
512 m of ram
64 m of video ram
Ati Radeon IGP 345M video (i THINK this is the problem)

I installed directx 9 and it didnt give me an errors so i believe its all installed. I know the driver date on my video car is from 12/13/03 so there MIGHT be an update for it out there, but i cant get to Sonys vaio update site at work. Man this SUCKS i want to play it.

maybe your cd is messed up?
im leaning towards that. i was just checking out my cpu usage when i try to run it and it kicks to 34% then drops to 0% sorta like its not seeing the disk... man this sucks.

well nevermind guys the CD is screwed up. Im going to give it back to my buddy so he can return it and get a new one or what ever he wants to do. Ill run to the store tomorrow and buy it.

Wow, you've become severely negative! LOL :)

I've been enjoying the game quite a bit now... I'm up to the communications tower... so I have a ways to go, but have enough hours under my belt to be in the game a ways. I've gotten desensitized enough to the format that the "surprises" don't bother me anymore. It's enjoyable from the standpoint as you can play somewhat mindlessley and it's just really interesting seeing all the levels and layouts. Thankfully there aren't too many gimmick things like having to go find this lever to flip that lever to flip this thing to open that secret to get in that door. Granted the PDA's and codes are gimmicky... but oh well! I prefer the much more linear gameplay than constant puzzle solving.

It's an interesting game and worth playing.. Worth 55 bucks.. umm.. probably not.. worth about 35 or so like farcry... sure/definitely! :)

since i havnt played it yet, can you tell me whats wrong with the game. cause if it does suck, ill just find a crack for it and copy the game instead of buying it.

You can't run a burned copy of Doom3 to actually play the game...I am not sure how they encrypt newer games like this, but you can only use the authentic CD to start the game...You can install doom 3 with the three burned copies...but there is an authentication protocol or something that runs when you hit the .exe, and it can tell if the CD is not an original...

Same thing for Max Payne 2 and a few others I have...You can burn it fine, and install it with burned discs fine...but you get a "authentication process timed out, please insert original play disc" when you try to play it with burned stuff...

there is an exe out there that gets around it... so the hacks are out as always... I"m just happy having a legal version of the game! :)

Read back through the last few pages of this thread...we both complained about it a bit...Its not that it is not worth playing...I think my criticism comes so hard because it was such a hugely hyped game, and I feel it didn't bring a whole lot new to the table...it just seems like a dark FPS with the same old weapons and really good graphics...thats about it...

If this title would have been the first Doom...and have not recieved much preview time at all...it probably would be amazing...But everyone and their dentist was flipping out before this was released, and everyone was saying that it would be the first chance to actually be in big budget interactive sci-fi/horror semi-hollywood film...its hardly that...In the end I guess I am saying, IMO it doesn't live up to the hype...
