What systems are people running?

Where can you get them?

Can you link me up, even if its on ebay.com I might be able to get it posted over, theres nothing aftermarket in the uk :(

I used to have axle back autoexe but wifey disliked it (no). If you go to yahoo auction japan, you can see them all over - they are expensive and the site requires fluency in Japanese reading. Another alternative is to use a freight forwarding service like www.sendico.com or www.nengun.com, search under Mazda Premacy, or for the 2012+ it's called CWEFW. There are Fujitsubo, Trust, Autoexe and possibly HKS as far as exhaust brands.

Later this summer I will be having a first gen Speed 3 muffler/tailpipe assembly custom fit to my 5. There is definitely some modification required, not just to the middle section. I've searched and it doesn't appear that anyone in the U.S. makes an aftermarket exhaust for the 5. It seems our best option is to buy for the 3/Speed 3 and pay to have it modified. I will be having a custom mid-pipe made to mate to the Speed 3 muffler/tailpipe section. I'm just not sure if I want to leave the factory pre-silencer or not. Here are some pics of a test fit:

I was considering just cutting the muffler off the otherday.

I wish corksport would just build one for us. God knows we'd buy it.

I don't think so. They changed the muffler design on the GenPu 2.5 but the 5 exhaust setup stayed the same as the first gen.

this doesn't apply for the header does it? As I understood the 2.5L headers are basically swappable between 3 and 5.

btw, backbox makes me giggle.. cuz.. it rhymes with "hotbox". (whistle)

I've been keeping an eye out but haven't seen anything. At the end of the month I'm having the midpipe made for the speed3 muffler. I'm taking out the secondary converter and resonator and putting in a Dynomax race muffler as a resonator in the midpipe. I was a bit worried about the 2.5" piping being too big but I've recently discovered that the new 2.5 skyactiv uses pipe just shy of 2.5". I would like to see a second gen 5 owner retrofit the second gen speed3 exhaust with the dual outlets. Once mine is done I'll post some pics and hopefully a sound clip.

^^^ Looking forward to it

I am thinking of doign the MS3 exhaust on the mazda5. Since I have a practically new MS3 exhaust sitting in my garage.

I'm thinking that all that would take is extending a couple of the single pipe sections, possibly above the the rear crossmember and the midpipe, moving some hangers and cutting off a tow hook on the passenger side. I would love to try the 2nd gen exhaust on my first gen 5, but I already had the 1st gen muffler as freebie and I'm doing this upgrade on a budget. Let us know the details if you get it done.

i got mine for a year..didn't get time and budget to have it installed...it's a mazdaspeed3 exhaust that's been fitted for 1st gen mz5..hope to have it installed soon but with the 4 months old baby i'm not sure of the inside cabin noise and highway drone...hope to have it installed someday !!

Yeah I know the local shop can do it. hes done a lot of good custom work for me over the last 15 years..and it shouldn't be a problem.

My main issue is more aesthetic. On my MS3 there is dual cutouts in teh bumper, so it looks very nice.

On the Mazda5, rear lower valance being black and not having any cutouts, I am not sure how bad the dual pipes might look.

Since I did the wheels, and suspension is next, the exhaust has been taking a back seat.

As far as noise...my two little ones love it... then again they are used to hearing straight pipe Elise and my 1199 all the time....up and down the street :D

I actually fitted a first gen speed 3 exhaust with both resonators on a Focus (same basic suspension) and it wasn't very loud and no droan. Just gave the the car a nice burble sound slightly louder than stock. That's why I'm sticking with what I know because I really liked it.
