Exhaust System Problem

I have a rattle in my exhaust system. Dealer said it was the front pipe coming loose/off. They quoted $1400 to replace the pipe and cat!

I was thinking of getting an exhaust shop to repair/replace the pipe and eliminate the cat thinking it will be much cheaper. I realize the OEM cats are way less than the $900 dealer quoted but I'm looking to do a reasonable repair with least cost.

Is it possible to eliminate this cat? If so, does it make sense?

Thanks for any help!

You can eliminate the cat but it is illegal *Cough*. You would be riped off by the dealer which is normal. Just get under the car with a socket and tighten it back up or better yet replace the exhaust system. That is if I am understanding you correctly.

I have my OEM one that I pulled off when I put my exhaust on. It's in my for sale thread linked in my signature. PM me if you're interested. You can do the repair yourself unless the bolts are severely rusted on. If they are, any shop worth your time should be able to install it for you for and hour's worth of labor at the most.
