Exhaust sound (loudness) questions?

Background:
I have just installed the CorkSport exhaust from the GB.
It is too loud for my liking.
I DO NOT want to add the silencer to it and reduce my gains.
I find it too loud overall, not that it buzzes or anything, it is very deep, but very loud even at regular speed/accelleration.
Questions:
1. Will adding a hi flow cat lower the overall loudness of the exhaust (I will be doing this regardless to pass emissions)?
2. Has anyone actually done this on their exhaust and what differences, if any, did you notice?
3. Will adding another resonator on top of the cat make a difference (The CorkSport has a reasonator and muffler stock)?
Thanks for the help. (drinks)

put resonator right after your midpipe/downpipe, that's what i did. you will have a lower, more quiet yet more powerfull sound. thats what i did for exact same reasons as you...i hate silencers. i got my resonator from jeggs for 69 shipped its a magnaflow, one ofthe best you can get for your car imo.

Since you have a trunk also, you might consider getting some Fatmat or Dynamat to line the trunk. I have the Mazdaspeed sport exhaust and it is louder inside the car than from outside. I've ordered some Fatmat (better value) and hope get it installed this Saturday. I'll let you know if it helps. $67 for 36 sq. ft. so it's worth a try.

yes another resinator would help, same with the cat. Neither of these will rob you of too much power.

I'm concerned with overall noise, not just in the cabin. It's too loud for the cops and my neighbours IMHO.

I don't have a midpipe/downpipe, I have the CorkSport exhaust and it already has a resonator before the axle back section.

My main question is in regards to adding a hi flow Cat, witll this lower the overall sound?

Thanks guys, keep the responses coming.

then hi flo cat is the way for you. regarding the sound it will do the same thing as the resonator.

I did the install a resonator trick on an exhaust on my accord and all I got was 100 bucks taken out of my account. It did not really help the sound. It is kinda hard to get perforance and no sound at the same time.

My Spool catback is too loud, I ordered a silencer for it, I'll let you know if there's a noticeable decrease in power.

(thumb) In my personal experience the main contributor to loud exhaust note is pipe size. Is your piping 2.5" or 3". I'll argue with anyone that 2.5" pipe is more than sufficient for the power you will ever extract from our engines. Also, a cat will create more back pressure than 5 resonators. On my last car, a 2002 supercharged Z24, I started with 3" pipe, no cats, no resonators. I ended up being more satisfied with 2.5" pipe, and 3 yes 3 resonators to get that annoying "RICER" sound down to where I could tolerate it! The loss of WHP from a 3" with no resonator to a 2.5" with 3 resonators, was a whopping 1.7 WHP! But....I gained 2.3 pounds of wheel torque with the added back pressure, so I considered my self better off. (thumb)

The actual tone of this exhaust is flawless. Even the volume from the outside is very reasonable considering it leaves NO cats on the car. You basically have to suck it up if the volume is too much outside the car and get the silencer or have a cat put in. Hiflow typically doesn't reduce sound that much.

I agree the tone is excellent, it's just the overall loudness that concerns me especially since i'm running catless for now. I'm worried about the boys in blue.

I don't want to add the silencer. Sticking a cork in the exhaust can't be good for the turbo or engine for that matter.

Keep 'em coming guys. (lol2)

I say get a hi-flow cat if you are worried about the fuzz, and maybe add a resonator to soften the tone.

I noticed with the straight pipe in place of the factory muffler it's louder inside than out, and not really obnoxious outside. There is, however, a deep throaty rumble that I can identify as "my car" from about 5 houses away when my wife brings "my" car back home....

yeah Ping, i loved the sound of the HSM.
The Corksport is substantially louder.
While on tpic, hi-flow cats can he had for as little as $60 (Catco) to upwards of $300 (Random Technology).
Any opinions on what to run?

catco is cheap and will burn out in a year or 2. go with magnaflow....in a 100 range they will last about 5-7 years.
