Laser Blue MP3
I am Kinda new to mods and all, but I think I am on the right track. After all, I ended up here didn't I. But anyways, I have an '01 MP3 and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what would be a good exhaust (full or just muffler, either way) that would add a nice sound, look good, and fit my car. Oh yeah, if it adds any power a bonus. Looking to spend no more than $300-$450. Responses always welcome, thanks.

you already have a good exhaust in the racing beat exhaust. Go for a header! It'll add growl and power.

p.s. you have a '01 mp3 as opposed to an mp3 of any other year?

that is good advice bud d gave you, unless you are looking for a new look.

if you just want sound remove the resonator, try high flow cats, replace stock downpipe. By swaping out your cats with high flow cats it might add some sound and power. More than you will get from an exhasut.

I had my 2nd cat and resonator taken out and i love the sound...
i had 2.5 inch crush bent piping put in... many people think my car has a v6 b/c it is a very low grumble..

i had my car dynoed with my aem intake and my exhaust and i gained ... 12lbft and 6hp over stock....

but a lot of torque was gained especially in the useable power band... 2000-4500...

i would say go with a header and larger exhaust....

for 400.00$ you might as well keep your stock muffler and get all new piping 2.5 or 2.75 inch no resinators or cat thats your best bet for power and sound for that price anyway.

for that much money, i would look into a new downpipe with hiflow cat. wagner makes them. it'll release that huge bottle neck at the stock position.

not to hijack his thread but if i replace my cat(s) with a hi flo and add a header am i gonna have any concerns about emission's testing? as i will be moving back to texas in december. or am i gonna have yet another car i have to slip $50 to the inspector?

plus isn't a test pipe as opposed to a downpipe?

unless you go with a shorty header, all headers out there right now (awr, racing mazda) will elminate the primary cat. the secondary cat can be turned into a hi flow, but with the simple fact of you having a header will fail you in terms of visual inspections. it's gonna be close.

visual im not worried about, i'll do liek my friend did with hsi civic and mount the stock heat shield over the header for the inspections. im just wondering about how its gonna read when they plug it in. i believe they jsut hook it to the computer since it's obd2.

yeah... well, here in arizona they do just plug you in. and they sniff. and they do a visual. it's insane. if you get the MIL eliminator for the CEL, then you should be good at the computer. but what's coming out of your tailpipe is highly dependent on the hi flow cat. visual inspections also include an undercarriage mirror check, so yeah... hope the tech doesn't know the difference between a header and a midpipe.

yeah well last time i had my camaro inspected the moron asked me where my second cat was for my dual exhaust because he saw dual tip even though i had single exhaust.
