Evo8/sti/msp

i dunno i wouldn't say were in the same class but i definately will say we can compete with them...

I dont care for AWD on my sports car thank you very much! :) I looked at the WRX before I bought the MSP and it wasnt worth the extra coin IMO. I like the MSP styling in and out better also. :D

I think it is a great car.
The only thing i would have like to see is AWD.
That would make it an Fing amazing car. Then i wouldnt mind modding the s*** out of it. The engine was cake. The AWD would make it worth wild for more like a standalone and such

I agree....but for around 20K..I don't think anyone's 'getting the shaft'

13,000 miles now........

And; I know most of you know my feelings on our cars. For $20,500 (retail), there isn't a car out there I would be happier with. No way! (thumb)

I for one wouldnt be interested in the drive train power loss with awd. I real sports car will always be RWD.

I agree as well. conservative estimate of drivetrain loss on awd is at least 25%, I personally think 30% is much more realistic on mass-produced awd system.

Plus rwd separates steering wheels from driving wheels.

The Evo ( Its not the Evo8 in the US) did not appeal to me at all, turbo lag, notchy shitfer (not that the MSP's is one to brag about), checkered blue interior, "mushy" brakes and having to rev high at a stop to get a smooth start. It just didnt seem to be for the road or everyday at all to me. The MSP isnt the greatest performer ever but in its CLASS its solid in all areas. A solid performer thats paritical for everyday use.
Side Note about the Turbo Lag on the Evo: When it was tested aganist the STi this is what Car and Driver had to say about it... "Its transverse - mounted 2.0 liter DOCH in-line four is turbocharged to within an inch of its life with a maximum of 19.5 pounds of boost. Consequently, its power dellivery is, at best, uneven. At low speed, there's a two-second gap between throttle application and full turbo boost. Then the engine virtually explodes with power, the turbo hissing in sinister fashion.
For example, becasue we waited forever for turbo boost to come on during our 30-to-50 mph top gear acceleration test, the Evo's time was a bog-slow 11.7 seconds.."
In an eariler C/D, they tested the MSP and the 30-to-50 top gear acceleration was 9.9 seconds

We can go on and on about suspension techniques and why AWD is better for many reasons.
FWD is not bad, its just not preffered. But it is much easier to pull wieght rather than push it like RWD

Unfortunatley RWD vehicles have more things against them when it comes to all around performance then any of the other options.

I cant disaggree about your shifter thoughts. I would like to see it a little softer.
BUT a much better feel than the protege.
As far as the turbo lag is concerned, it is a feature that really was designed into the system. For everday road use. The restricter inline with the clutch slave cylinder causes alot of this. It actually causes a tremendous bogging, But saves the trans from destruction.
This is easily eliminated with the new ss line the aftermarket offers for $50
The EVO is not for everyone.
But it is no doubt a true beast that with little mods can develop 390 WHP for an additional $2000
Completely reliable and drivability is great.
I bought mine for $29,000 add the $2000 and you have a beast that retains all stock components and gets more power than any protege has had to two wheels.

He wrecked the 6, i believe...

I am supposed to drag with this guy who's got a Mustang convertible. The small V6 motor in it. I was all like I can beat that thing but now I am having second thoughts. I've heard a new GTI takes the Mustang but I think the GTI takes an MSP too. Any thoughts. I am running stock boost with a reflash.

All I was saying is that for a turbo car it has one of the worst turbo lags around. After adding that much power to a car whos engine is already "high strung," Longevity is not gonna be a word to explain the car. Im not saying the Evo is a bad car just not one I enjoyed driving. I can honestly say the MSP has been, and Im sure for you it has been the Evo, to each his own.

Note on the Topic: The MSP wasnt intenden to go up against the Evo but holds its own in a wider class of competition. Its pretty much the tip of the sword out of about a dozen cars whereas the Evo technically has to compete with one other car.

the Convertable's, are heavier than the coupe, so you should have nothing to worry about. Even if it is a 5-speed you should beat it by 1-2car's. Just to make you feel better. My friend's 03 Si with Injen CAI/ Greddy Evolution exhaust beat a 01Mustang V-6 5-speed by half to 1car. The MSP is alot quicker than the 03 SI.

Im not offended in any way, BUT how do you consider the engine is high strung?
I think i also posted WHY the car has the lag it does.
Seriously just trying to see whats on your mind.
