evilmonkey's 2013 CWP MS3

Decaled the car for the St Pete Grand Prix event with our usual group. I think it came out pretty cool.

Received my CorkSport RSB today. And it had a nice little surprise. They wished me a Happy Birthday and even threw in a couple gifts! Love those guys!

Will throw a comparo pic up during install of stock bar vs CS bar. Plan to put it on full stiff.

Cross posting my install/review

So ever since I purchased the MS3 in December I knew that an adjustable RSB was a must, one to eliminate the body roll and to help with understeer. I had been weighing the options out there (CorkSport, JBR, Hotchkis were my main contenders). I was leaning more towards the Hotchkis as my preference is non-welded one piece bars and at the time out of those that met those criteria as the CS and JBR were the same style "3-piece" welded bars.

And yes, I know the chances of breaking a weld is slim to none but this was still my preference.

Then, browsing CorkSport's site recently I noticed their RSB looked different and after looking more into it, sure enough they had updated the design and created a solid, one piece RSB with 2 adjustment points.

When comparing the CS bar with the Hotchkis there are a few differences so they are not identical. The CS bar is a solid one piece design while the Hotchkis is a hollow one piece design. The CS bar is also thinner than the Hotchkis at 28.5mm vs the 32mm diameter of the Hotchkis. After looking into it, the reasoning behind this is that a solid bar will tend to perform as well if not better than a larger diameter hollow bar. Yes, the hollow bar might weigh a tad bit less but that amount of unsprung weight will not be noticeable to most if not anyone.

CorkSport VS Hotchkis
Solid.............Hollow
28.5mm.........32mm
114/180%......95/140% stiffness settings
$199.............$219

So after looking at the competition and weighing all the differences and such I decided I wanted the CS RSB (Plus I've kind of always been a CS fanboy since having the Protege LOL)

So enough about that, on with the pics!

Install was straight forward and a breeze as it is with any RSB.

Initial driving impressions:

Went out for a spirited drive after install to make sure all was secure and to see how much the handling improved. I hit a few highway on ramps and off ramps as well as a few twisty back roads (twisty for FL that is).

The car feels phenomenal with this upgrade. The car feels much more planted and begs for you to toss it around. Body roll has been almost completely eliminated which was one of my peeves about the car. I noticed much better feel when entering turns and noticebly less understeer.

I have an autox planned for this weekend so I will be able to get an even better feel as to how much the handling has been improved. Can't wait and I'll report back my findings afterwards.

If you're in the air about purchasing a RSB for your MS3 I say do so now. Of course choose the bar that you feel is right for you but you absolutely cannot go wrong with the CorkSport bar.

It's retarded how much more fun this car is now when driving spiritedly through turns/curves.

Ran my first AutoX today and it was a blast. The car felt awesome! Very easy to read and could tell where I needed to improve. I hate to say it but I enjoyed it more than the S2000. The event was split into a early and late "event". I ran the early event and at that time I was 1st in my class of ten but only 4 of us ran that morning. I am waiting for results of the late event to be posted to see if my time held up.

Either way it was an awesome first time and the RSB made the car very easy to drive and get some rotation out of the rear when needed. Just need to work on my tire pressures for next time, could have used a few more pounds in the front. Next time.

Going to edit the videos together once I get my times for each run since I didnt write them down.

40F/33R

The front could have used about 5 more PSI

Final results of today's AutoX just posted. Placed 3rd out of 10 in my class!!! Was less than 1 second behind the lead car. First and second were Miatas of course haha. Definitely need to work on my tire pressures for next time!

What stiffness setting did you set it to and did you notice a great difference between the two?
