equal length header

Do any of you have the "Essential Speed" equal length header?

They make some pretty big claims. Also it keeps the first cat which I would think would keep a lot of the restriction. Does anyone know anything about it? I know all the 4-1 headers maninly just increase top end, but if this does what it claims, it would be pretty sweet!

damn, just what the FS-DE needs....20lb/ft more torque!! Now it does look damn good though....I wonder if their header made 8-10whp using the stock cat and exhaust though....for $460 i'd expect more than 10hp/20lb/ft

Why? I don't think the AWR makes much more (if any) and it costs more. I agree with the sarcasm your reply. I can hardly get on mine w/o spinning in lower gears from the torque. I really wish the Hp/$ was less on these motors!

I have Traveler's header, and I'll tell you, it definitly makes the car more drivable. =) I'm sure these have a similar affect. They're a royal b**** to get on, though, as a warning. Here's a pic:

flat_black, is that the one that was f/s not too long ago? I wish I bought that one....damn expensive christmas!

Yeah, tell me about it. x.x But yes, freekwonder sold it to me. =) A cool guy, and he definitly gets my recomendation if he sells anything else on here.

dude, no offense intended, but that header looks like ASS. That thing is huge!! Look at how lung the runners are before it meets at the collector! It's so damn tall it looks like it would hit the hood. The ES header looks 100X's better IMO

No offence taken; I didn't design the header. =) I don't give two s**** about appearance in comparison to performance, and the header has filled my quota. And if you were wondering, no, it doesn't hit the hood at all. If you were asking me for a dyno, I don't really have one that's reasonably priced near me, unfortunatly. And my numbers won't be applicable to the other header, probably. While the runners are equal length on mine, it's a different design, and there may be a bit of flow difference in that alone.

it looks very similar to a focus header, but DAMN is that thing large!! I'd be very interested in seeing an actual gain. I think the ES piece looks great. Once I see an actual dyno I'm going to buy it...the polished look, the smooth design, maintaining the facotry emissions equpiment....these are all big pluses

Traveler saw that gain after enlarging the pipe to and from the first catalyst, as well; Myself, I'm replacing the whole first cat with a high flow setup, similar to Wagner Motorsports' setup. I may just have to go with Andy Wagner's setup, though, as I'm going to be hard pressed to find a cat small enough to fit in the limited area the P5 offers.

is that PEAK or constant?? there's a big difference. i want to see the area under the curve. The more area the better!

Well, here's what Traveler posted about it:

This header made 7.8 lb/ft of torque more than the previous best dyno run. Also, it made more HP from 3500 RPM all the way up and kept the power climbing past 5700 where the stocker fell off drastically. It made 95.3 lb/ft at 6250 where the last time I dynoed it I was only making 88. Peak HP was 113.4 and peak torque was 119.1. Keep in mind that I have an ES model that makes a little less than the MP3 stock. I've gained (overall including all mods so far) about 15.5 HP, and 12 lb/ft of torque but over a much wider RPM range. It actually pulls through redline now where before it felt like it was falling on its face at 5700 RPM.

Also this:

I made 7.8 lb/ft of torque more at the torque peak which was actually 250 rpm LOWER than the manifold. HP gain started about 3500 and was 3-5 more all the way up but kept going after 5750 where the stock manifold signs off. Before my max power was at 6000 at 107.3 HP, and with the header the max was at 6250 with 113.4. It kept the torque longer also. The torque was still 101.6 @ 6000 rpm with the header versus 93.9 with the manifold.

mthelen where are you in wisconsin?

I live in West Bend

So, keeping the first cat isn't the end of the world? I've taken the cat completely out of all my cars (Miata, MX-6(V6)) up until this point, and welded my own exhaust pipes. Cheap way to get get a throaty tone I guess, but this time I want to get some good parts. I got the Injen RD intake, and once it stops being below zero around here, I'm putting on the Racing Beat exhaust. I figured the header would complete the deal. All things equal, it seems like the ES should give me slightly better low end response then the AWR.
