I'm thinking of sell my RX-8, cus it is becoming nothing but problems!!! well its s*** for gas, everyone knows that, but my main issue is it keeps on dieing at stops. 45% when i stop its just dies. and it takes a while to crank it back, I know about flooding the enigne and i never shut it off cold, i rev the rpm's at 30000 then turn it off. What is the problem???? i might get the battier check, but other then that i'm starting to hate this car. is the engine just ******? recall maybe?
pls help, this is my dream car, but its becoming a problem.

You dont need to rev your engine up before shutting it down. Just let it idle for 5-10 seconds. I've been babying my car and have yet to have ANY problems in the 4 years I have it, the only thing that was done to the engine was replaced spark plugs under recall even though the old ones were running fine.

G'day.

Regarding the well known RX-8 ignition coil issue.

It's common for the 03+04 models to have coil failures anywhere from 40,000km onwards. My 03-model coils failed at 50,000km.

Bad idling, stalling at idle, high fuel consumption, popping & crackling at high revs & ping are all symptoms of failing coils.

Go to >> this << on-line Mazda dealership & buy a new set.

Part # N3H1-18-100-9U

Have them fitted or replace them yourself. I did the whole job myself in 2 hours on a lazy SUN afternoon. The delivered price was excellent compared to the Mazda Australia stealership pricinng & once installed..........wow

All that lost performance returned, fuel consumption dropped & it was easier to start.

Here is a pic of pitting under the coils from my RX-8. The tiny cracks amongst the pitting allows the spark to discharge to the GROUNDED mounting plate rather than the spark plug.
