Engine/transmission question

Hello to all,

I have a 2009 CX9 GT that I bought new w/out the towing package. Wanted to know would adding a trailer hitch tax the engine/tranny/cooling system too much? If it is possble, what would I/auto shop have to do in order to add a trailer hitch so I could pull a 16' x 7' dual 3500lb axle capacity trailer? The goal is to be able to transport bulky items and a JD Gator to and from an auto shop [max capacity of material(s) being towed would be 1050lbs. The type of terrain is 90-95% flat with gentle inclines in a few places.

If this is doable, would kind of turn-key price should this install cost?

Thank you very much,
tstex

in the manual i believe it states how much towing you can do safely before it starts having issues, i think it was like 2500 lbs or something

IMHO, between 2000lb to 3500lb, you can make your own call.
Tow rating is self-accessed by automakers. Fed does not care about it.
Usually a heavy duty radiator and a bigger transmission cooler are all it takes to
raise the rating.

Keep the tranny temp down with a good front mount cooler, install a tranny temp gauge and 2" receiver and you can probably double the tow rating. If the tongue weight gets too heavy though, you may need helper shocks in the rear.
