Engine ticking

:
2003 Protege5
My engine has recently started "ticking". I've searched and there are a few threads on this problem, but no solution other than that oil has possibly settled.

Anyway, I want to take it in for warranty service on this issue. Before I take it in, does anyone think there is any remote possibility that my intake may have caused this problem?

If so, I will put the stock intake and airbox back in before I take it.

:)

hey, i got the ticking, too!!! hahahaha... yeah, john and i heard it. it's very distinct. i'm going to get my oil changed before the run and see if it helps. also, i'm going to switch back to the stock oil filter to see if that has anything to do with it. keep me posted on what the dealer says. my dealer already told me that they will make it very difficult for me to do any type of warranty work on my car because of the intake. bastards.

I had the ticking also. Actually three tickings(is that a word?). Anyways, the first one was the intake rubbing on the master cylinder i think is what the dealership. And the second is something with my a/c. The third is that little box thingy that was on the stock intake. the metal thing that i have been told is the silenoid. THat used to tick, but then i took a zip-tie and tied it to the intake hose ant that took care of that. But the dealership was very nice to me. I have taken it in a few times. once for a broken strut..which was my fault, dirt roads :). anyways they fixed both of the front ones just in case. under warranty. then i took it in for the ticking and they told me it was the intake rubbing. so they are pretty nice to me...what one do you go to truc, the automall?

the ticking is normal. this happens when you get an aftermarket intake. everyone i know has that slight ticking...you hear it when the car is in idle ,right?

unless you dealer is a complete ass, they should not give you any crap about the intake. in order for them to deny you warranty work, they have to prove that the aftermarket part you put on caused the problem.

i had a ticking. except mine came from deep in the motor and i had to get a new engine

yeah, i took it to the automall when i first got here for my first oil change. they were dicks, so i stopped coming back. i asked about lowering my car and they said that lowering my car will void my suspension warranty. totally true. that's legit. but what's jacked is they said that lowering the car will void my engine's warranty, too, since it puts more stress on the engine mounts. WTF? and that to have it still be under warranty, i would have to let them install my springs. i asked how much, they said $80 an hour, installing springs generally take 2-3 hours. uh... no thanks. so i asked them about an intake. they said that's fine, but intakes mess with the way the engine gets its air, so the engine's warranty will be voided. they said it was like a chain reaction. if i mess with air intake, then the whole system gets ****** up. i'm like... um... ok. at this point, i knew they were full of s***, so i just agreed, got my car back, and never looked back. let me see if i still have the asshole's card. it's the fat balding guy.

that guy is an ass, i have some younger guy. they have been alright...but they told me that if you modify suspension then only suspension warranty will be voided, if you modify air intake ony air intake part will be voided....but who knows what the **** is the truth in those damn places.

i've had the tick for a month now... i guess i'm calling the dealer on friday! sheesh... now to deal with the hell they're gonna give me... unless i get the younger cat. zoom zoom, can you let me know who you have been dealing with over there? i'd like to see if he's willing to diagnose the car without too much hassle. thanks.

all depends on where the tick comes from. i get ticking....from my cams. totally normal, you get that with solid cam-valve setup.

This is a VERY touchy subject for me.

So after letting my girlfriend try and learn how to drive stick on my msp and kill it 10 times in a row i decided that was enoulf. The next day i went thru a drive thru and noticed this loud ticking...I remeber looking behind me and thinkin wow that guys car sound like ass. Later that day i walked around the front of my car to get some mail and was HORRIFIED! to hear that sound was me.

I always have my music way up so i couldnt hear, but now i know its there i can hear it from 20 feet away with the hood closed on a windy day.

ITS SO ******* LOUD!. I took it to the dealership and they said it was a normal "mazda tick". Disssatisified i took it to a couple people with speeds. Yes there did have a tick. But it was NOTHING like mine. I mean mine was easily 4 times as loud.

I took it to another dealership and they took it in the back to a tech, came back and said ya thats NOT right, we will take care of it for you. They called back later that day and said since i had a CAI that if they opened the block up and found it was somehow the intake's fault that i would have to pay. I made it VERY clear that there was no ******* way i was going to pay for something if they thought it was the intake fault and that they better not even try and stick me with a bill. The guy agreed that it would be insane to blame it on the intake. 4 hours later i get a call from a different guy saying it was normal, and that they would do some reasearch into it. !!!!! WTF WAS THAT ABOUT!!!>..

so the next day i take it to a friends shop. Rob says that its alot louder than the normal mazda tick.

I THEN take it back to the first dealership and explain that rob from pineapple racing, a very respected mazda shop said its not normal and that it should be looked at. I talked with the service mngr and the GM. I wanted to get it fixed. We had a "pow-wow" and it sounded like i was going to get everything fixed, or at least looked at this time. That was last week and i still havnt gotten a ****** call back... WTFBBQ!!!!!

so ya if you bothered to read that thanks, a load off my chest.

IF you can make a recoring of your tick and ill tell you if its the normal mazda tick, or if its something like mine.

o and btw, its comming from the block. Ihave had 6 people play with it and all agree its a lifter or something along those lines.

Its probaly the intake hitting the brake cylinder like mines was....put something in between it. If its not it may be something more serious. On my Audi it was the lifters ticking which they fixed for me easily somehow.....

Just for s**** and giggles, I took my intake out this morning and put the stock one back in. The ticking is gone. Guess I know what's making it.

Back into the garage I go...
