Mazda Protege 1999/Mazda Protege5 2002
Hey everyone I just have a couple questions. I have a 1999 Protege and I am wanting to do a complete engine swap. I am wanting to know what is different between the stock P5 2.0, and the MSP 2.0. I know the MSP has a main bearing support plate. So I am wanting to know if I bought a P5 2.0 and put the main bearing support plate in it, would it pretty much be the same motor as the speed?

Thanks everyone.

They both use the plate. The difference is, the MSP plate has the oil return from the turbo.

you can tap your oil pan for a return line. and you can buy an oil cooler if youd like. then from there basicly just an msp turbo kit or your own custom made kit and msp ecu w/ some sort of fuel management (ssafc or unichip) will make the car run so much better. but engine wise pretty much everything is the same. for all the 3rd gen proteges (sedans/protege5/mp3/msp)

Engines are identical other than a few accessories. Note that the CAM and CRANK Pulleys ARE different. They will not interchange because the tooth patterns are different for the cam and crank sensors.

Cam gears are the same.

Crank pulley should also be the same. Just the 626 had different AFAIK.
