engine swap delay...

So in my race to get the Protege street worthy before sept. 6th for the kent meet. I have been battleing with this engine swap... First the fans don't swith on for jack ... when you hit the a/c button it just doesn't work , when the car gets hot ...it doesn't work...

Next I put the axles in ... next problem , the axles go in but the jack (intermediate shaft) does not bolt on . the holes are like 2 inches off.... shiiiiiiittttt....
So I go down to my local b&b's (parts store) and have them check and see if the 95 1.5 jack shaft and the 96 1.8 jack shaft are different and indeed he says yes they are ... the 95 1.8 jack shaft and 96 1.8 jack shaft are the same but the 1.5 is different... and the price for the jack shaft is 190 bucks due to it only being available brand new :bs: ... So I go home and check on www.car-part.com and see one and call the guy up and ask him like 3 times to verify that it is for a 1.8 and he says yes a 96 1.8 mt... that was music to my ears. 50 bucks shipped to my door...
ok so when this get's here we will see what happens.

and as for the fans , it's not the relay... I tested that ... it works.
I am using a kia sephia cpu.. works great ,, car runs and everything , but have to figure what the heck is going on ...
your suggestions are welcome ...

Why from a sephia, I assume its the same engine?

yeah, the 1.8L BP.

are you using the Mazda relay? Could there be a difference between the kia and mazda one? So, if you, say, give the relay power manually will they turn on?

nonono..
I am using the 96 mazda protege 1.8 BP with the 1.5L wire harness modified to make the engine work ... everything is going smooth aside from the fans. I am also using a kia sephia ecu for a BP ...

I used a tester to test the fans and I managed to get them to work , both at the fuse box and and the cpu... I still have one more thing to check that Marcio was telling me about that is on the engine block ... Some type of sensor that sends a signal to the ECu and turns the fans on ...

reason it takes so long , is because when it comes to this Protege and fixing it to get the motor running ,,it starts to cost me $$$$$ ...lol ... but the knowledge I gained from researching is invaluable.. I will have to do a full update on my site when I get a chance .. like umm maybe tonight if I can

1st gen 1.6 ... don't you mean the 1.8 sohc .. well the 1.5 dohc was a sohc desighn and is much more efficient. It basically gets the job done , which is economy ... The engine easily gets 30+ mpg in the highway and more than 27 to 29 in the city ... The 5 speed 1.5 gets better gas mileage than my 1.6 sohc 323 ...

The 1.5 has 92hp and 98lbs of tq
the 1.8 has 122hp and 125 or so tq

Right, the coolant sensors are what will trigger the fans to come on. Even on same model year first gens, there seem to be some discrepancies in where the coolant temperature sensors are placed, and how it is wired. There's usually one in the radiator or overflow tank, too... I however haven't had any problems with mine (besides one of them leaking around where it plugs into the radiator), so I can't tell you much more than that.

Edit: Alex means the b6 from the 323.

Hey Charles ...get this. I had a 1st gen 94 ecu laying around in my house. So I get it plug it in my 2nd gen and hit the A/c button ... guess what the fans come on ... hahaha.. so it is the damn kia sephia ecu , well anyway I ordered a BP ecu ,, I found one in florida ...
just gotta pray the guy sends me the right s*** ..
