Engine surges when accelerating

Hi I have a 2015 CX-5 2.2L Skyactiv diesel manual, owner for 3 years. Really pleased with car.

For the last 2 weeks I’ve been having problems with the accelerator. Rickover’s is fine but when driving and changing gear the engine surges by between 1 and 3 thousand revs.

I have changed the MAP and MAF sensors and cleaned EGR valve. I’m not getting any codes showing up on OBDll diagnostic scanner so I’m stumped any one hade same problem I would be glad of bit of help Please!

Just one other question, does the EGR valve have any moving parts? When I cleaned mine, could not work out how it actually worked.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Haha, well thanks for taking me immediately onto a little educational side trip to discover the meaning of the slang "Rickover". I learned a lot about Admiral Hyman G Rickover who is said to be the "father of the nuclear navy" developing nuclear propulsion. He was apparently known for his "intense" interview style designed to break the interviewee down. He was said to be "hyperactive, blunt, confrontational, insulting, and a workaholic, always demanding of others without regard for rank or position."

You'll have to educate me on what the slang term "Rickover" mean in your context haha (I'm assuming "turnover" or starting)

Now, to your issue... Do have any scan tools available (such as FORScan) that stream live data? That would be helpful to diagnose the issue if you could see fuel pressures, boost, various valve positions etc.

I agree with @Jmaz ... Replacing the fuel filter would be a quick, easy and inexpensive first step. All it would take is one bad fill up of contaminated fuel to plug it up without you even knowing. (I keep a new filter in the back of the car all the time ) May as well check that air filter to eliminate that too.

Look up "Mr Nice Guy" on the YouTube. He's about the most knowledgeable mechanic I've seen for our 2.2 diesel. He may have some insight for you.
