Engine questions

Hmm i believe reading there was a way to do it believe it or not with a probe motor... do a couple searches however the fact was brought up that.. to conver to the probe engine would cost way more money then going out and getting our engined turbo and forged.. with new rods/pistons... so no one has done it

You could probably put a MX-6 LS (or Probe GT) KL03 engine in your car seeing that the FS engine is almost the same as the one in the lower Probe and MX-6 models. Besides maybe a problem with sensors there are a bunch of other reasons i wouldnt do it. First off the KL03 is rated at 164 hp 160 ft/lbs of torque. Thats only 35 hp for a complete motor swap doesnt seem really worth it. Next the KL03 has an aluminum block compared to the FS iron block. Iron has been stated that it is better for boost. The KL has side feed injectors the FS has the much more popular top feed injectors. KL has a volume air flow sensor which is much more restrictive than the FS's mass air flow sensor. The KL weighs 85 lbs more than the FS. And the biggest difference is that the FS has a future in aftermarket parts compared to the KL which is seeing less and less aftermarket parts all the time.

Hope that made you change your mind :)

Does a MX-6 motor or an RX-7 motor fits with the mazda protege 2001+ ?

Why on earth would you want a Probe/MX-6 motor in you Protege anyway?!? The FS-DE motor is far more capable than anything that was put in the Probe/MX-6.

As for the rotary out of an RX-7, not bloody likely, you'll spend way to much to make that thing work right.

If you are going to take the time to put in a KL series motor, take a look at the KL-ZE. This is a japanese spec motor rated at about 200HP. It is an awesome swap for an MX-3 V6. I'm sure the protege would still need some fabrications.

As for the rotary....Good Luck! The only cars i've seen rotarys easily retrofit into are older Datsuns and VW beetles that have been converted into dune buggies.
