hi all..
i have a weird noise coming out of the engine bay when i turn the AC on, the noise is fairly loud and only happens when i turn the ac on,
If i turn the fan on without AC there is NO noise...

so i am thinking it is related to the compressor/belts maybe ?
any ideas what i can check ?

Define "weird"

It's not a silent system. it makes some noise normally. (dunno)

hi..
grinding noises really loud..
i could be the magnetic clutch thing...

definitely not the belt slipping noise..

Mine is similar and will do it even when I have AC off but the defrost on. The other day it sounded like a diesel under the hood when I was stopped at a light. Have only 10k on the odo so it's a little annoying...

The reason you hear it when the defrost is on is because your a/c is being used to get rid of the humidity inside the car.

If the AC is working check the pulley and clutch assembly. Look for loose pulley bolt or possible clutch damage.

The compressor is located all the way at the bottom of your engine on the passenger side. I agree.. you should turn it on, pop the hood and look down there with a flashlight. The pulley may be wobbling a little, or the belt can make a LOT of noise if it's in bad shape. Remember this is a one-time elastic drive belt, so if you just serviced something, replace it.

mines been doing the same since i drove off the lot, The AC system is just a power robbing noisy ahole. but if it blows cold im happy!
