Engine done

Just wanted all to know that she died at 51,349 miles. Its all my fault. I reduced the boost down to 12 to have normal driving in the cold weather (21 degrees) Everything was fine. Drove it around at highway speeds. Stop n go etc. Then pulled up at a light got ready to pull off and POW... I heard something gingling under the hood. Car came to a stop would not start.

I just had an oil change 2 days prior and I figure/figured it was there fault. Even now at 11:30 I'm hoing that it is. But after reading these threads on low boost I'm 90% sure it was myfault. I called a tuner and was told that reducing the boost would help on the fuel/boost cut. What i failed to do was check the A/F ratios after the changes. I JUST got my airflow straightner in the mail today. Not sure what will become of all the parts or what an engine will cost. I had the car towed to the dealership that changed the oil but I know what the verdict will be... (gun)

What's the cost for an engine?

how the hell does it blow even when its not under heavy load? Is Mazda just giggling at all of us over in Japan because we are trying to mod this car? I can see it all now...sorry to hear about your situation man, good luck.

by the time the engine blows, the damage has already been done. same reason why differentials in mazdaspeed proteges snap in parking lots at 5mph. metal fatigue, parts fatigue. its not always instantaneous.

someone on the other forums posted their boom story yesterday.... However they were running fully bolted with a standback and only using an off the shelf tune (Intake/TBE aka. No tune lol) and they got a bend rod in cyl 3 I believe it was.

6K last I heard for an out of the crate motor. I am sure PG could give you a much better deal on internals and rebuild the block you have. Bummer though! I dont think proper tunes work even with this ECU. About to throw up the arms and trade it in for a car that can be tuned and handle it.

I was thinking the same thing but everywhere that was posted that someone reduced the boost the same thing has happened.

I need to start donation for an engine if its 6k! If everyone gave me a $1 i'd have enough!

Don't go worst case scenario yet. Maybe it was the oil change. Could lowered boost really lead to catastrophic failure? In the same way improper oil can?

If you have a For Sale thread, I call dibs on the MS springs/camber kit!! lol

But in all honesty, sorry to hear about your troubles. It truely seems like a lot of engines that are blowing up are ones that were heavily modded and that is not surprising to me. Thankfully, I won't be heavily modding.

sorry to hear that bro, but wait it out, see what they say

i highly doubt low boost would cause an engine to blow, unless as he stated the a/f's were off, which then wouldnt be an issue with the motor but the tune

let us know man, id would be intresting to see what the outcome is

Dealership says it may be the oil filter housing. WHICH tells me it may be from their oil change.... Hasn't quite made it to the rack yet. I'm not keeping my hopes up too high as i think i recall seeing a piece of the piston fall out during the tow.

Wow. If they do prove it is the oil change they should replace fairly quickly with no problems. They have insurance to specifically cover that. Cross your fingers and pull those door moldings.

The dealer told me once they were replacing an engine on a MS6 and it was just over $11k but thats stealership pricing, I'm sure you can get it done a lot cheaper.
