anyone know if there is a difference between the protege, msp, mp3 and the protege 5 engines? if so what are they? and whats the most reliable turbo to run on the stock engine? and at what psi.
i just need a little info and ill be starting my turbo install soon and posting updates!!!!!!

the 2.0 motor is the exact same on all of them. The only diffrence is that the MSP has a windage tray added for the oil/coolant lines. If you add a sandwich plate to the oil filter you can source the oil lines off of there. and just drill out an oil return into the oil pan. then a coolant source. the T-25 is the stocker. If your going to get a turbo you might as well upgrade that to a Gt28RS for a couple hundred more, and just run low boost until you get around to forging the motor. There is a write up in either the P5 or MP3 section on adding boost

alright that helps alot!! but whats required as far as tuning? would 7 or 8 psi be okay? im also looking to upgrade the cams and get an underdrive pully. then later internals motor mounts etc..

If your running a p5 or mp3 or stock protege ECU, I have no clue you might be better off posting this in the P5 or MP3 or regular Pro section. Since the MSP has a different ECU already tuned for boost we just add a split second or Unichip, those are both great inexpensive, effective units. but I don't know if they work on a non msp ecu

I'll add my two cents. If you are are going to turbo you NA protege you can use the MSP ecu (probably the easiest route). I was trying to use the SSAFC with my p5 ecu and we (the shop i had the car at couldnt get the ecu to add fuel past 3 psi. Now i use the split second with the msp ecu.

+1, I did the same on my MP3.
