Electrical problem for my p5

Hi, I have a 2003 p5 and all has been great until I noticed that my aplifiers were not working, after removing them I verified the voltage of the battery and it was ok but there was continuity on the the battery terminals and I want to kno if this is normal?

Amplifiers for like a stereo system? If so, do you have a capacitor on it? And did you properly charge the capacitor before hooking it up?

I do not have a capacitor for the stereo system it is just that the do not turn on with the cars battery do to the fact that the battery terminals of the car have continuity, I tested the amplifiers with an external battery and they work great and I also took the car to advanced auto parts and all was well with the charging system and the battery.

The battery terminals should have continuity, that's normal. I would venture to say you have a bad ground connection somewhere or your alt may be going. Amps tend to draw a lot of power so anytime you hook them up you should use a capacitor or a switch with a separate fuse to help control the draw. A lot of people will install a separate battery in the back somewhere just for amps and other accessories so it doesn't overload the main battery.

also make sure that the "remote" wire is connected from your stereo to your amp. this is normally a small blue wire, and without it, the amp will not know when to turn on.

He said connected to an external battery, it works fine. You should still look into a capacitor. Also maybe whoever said alternator (too lazy to scroll up lol) is right. With the main battery running the car on top of the system itself, the alternator may not be able to keep up with the required draw.

Thanks all for your help, the amps have a separate battery in the rear of the car. Tomorrow I will be testing to see if it is ground.

Ight let us know. But I would def look into getting a capacitor and a high output alternator for sure
