EGR valve?

99.9percent of all of our cars Idle funny. mine jumps between 100 and 1500 rpm s all of the time

yeah mine jumps too..

if you wanna check it.. it's right underneath/behind the throttle body.
take off your intake and peer underneath the throttle body - you'll see a little black box - that's it.

I just changed mine this past weekend.. car still bogs down to 600rpm on occasion.. i've just learned to accept it

do they make an egr eliminator kit for our cars? i know my friend with a mustang gt has one. I'm not sure what it does though.

^^ mine did that.. and my CEL came on.
if you want to push it to the extreme and have your CEL come on (if there's a real problem) when you come to a red light or stop sign... go from 40mph and just SLAM on the breaks.. that's when my CEL came on.

I've done that just to see what will happen, no CEL. I'm just never satisfied until everything is perfect.

hmm. strange..
just take out the EGR and look at it... they said mine was gunked up, but i couldn't see a difference between mine and the 'new' one

1 out of 10 proteges have a bad EGR valve. mine gave me trouble last month and am getting a new one put in this saturday. they cleaned it three weeks ago and it is starting to act up again......rough idle/choke mode while running due to being stuck open.....

I just recently unplugged mine and don't have a CEL yet (haven't finished the drive cycle). I've read that some cars may show a CEL and some may not depending on how clean (emissions) your car is running. I'm not sure how one would fair unplugged if you're having idle issues though. I would assume the reason you're having idle probs is due to it sticking open. So, if you unplug it while it's stuck open a little, it'll prolly stay that way. Mine was just sticking intermit. around 2k-3k rpm in 3rd -5th and was causing a slight bucking sensation. Never had any idle probs, so I know it was closed when I unplugged it.

???so if u unplug it while its open,it can actually freeze in place, i thought the spring always kept it shut. So maybe the motor stops when its unplugged, therefore causing it to stay open. so maybe thats how i heard of someone running it open. the car was off when i unplugged. You will get ur CEL ina few days. :)

today the idle didnt bog at all. then again if i jiggle my MAF around(not that its loose from the mounting surface), the idle seriously will change up.

unplugged is kind of a bad idea. the eliminator is the best way to go if you want to get rid of it. you could just always clean it. it is really easy to clean and most of the time you don't need a new one.

bump, want to no if i shud leave it un plugged

no you should not leave it unplugged...It helps keep you from detonating your motor. It wont give you any performance by unplugging it and it will probably actually make things worse and ruin your idle.

Wow this thread is from like years ago...

mine is new from about 3000 miles and my msp has a funny idle when its hot outside.
