educate me about airbag seats

discovered that my new daily has the srs logos on the seat sides, which leads me to believe that there are airbags inside. that, and the po stated that it had side airbags.

ive never had a car with airbags in the seats.

what the hell do they do, other than deploy? what sets them off?

also, I want to add lumbar to these seats for comfort due to back injury.

can I do that in a seat with airbags? would it impede on the functioning of the airbag, or possibly cause them to go off?

maybe im just paranoid....

It looks like you should be OK with installing the lumbar support,... Just make sure nothing is in the way of the deployment area.

off to order lumbar,l and find a how to about pulling the stock seats apart.
