edmunds walkaround of the '10 Speed3 suspension and etc.

thats odd, I was looking at the article photo, and that ten has the nice aluminum cap
when I looked at one on the floor, and I swear it had a crappy plastic one

My '10 MS3 has both the alu oil cap and a plastic one. The latter was in the cargo area when I picked it up. Another '10 MS3 that I test drove also had the same deal. Not sure why Mazda's doing that.

some test mag got. I believe. 4.6 mph fater in the slalom with the 2gen over 1gen

thats alot. if other factors are equal

thoughts??

They did redo the suspension setup and stiffen the chassis further. It makes sense that is would be faster.

Another thought, did they alter the steering angle power restriction in the 2010's? I'm not sure it would come in to play in the slalom, but maybe (shrug)

the steering rack is a little different, and yes the suspension is stiffer and also the tires are a little wider.

of course on the other hand a first gen could have been tested in the winter and the 2nd gen in the summer thus allowing for stickier tires, but who knows. as for the chassis, im not so sure if that's any stiffer. i think it's all pretty much the same chassis and frame, just new bodywork. it's still based on ford's global c1 platform

Same thing when i bought my '09 in May this year.

Red aluminum Mazdaspeed cap on with the plastic one in the back still in the packaging.

One of the options North American cars got was the fancy oil cap. In fact it actually held up the delivery of the 2010 Ms3. The car I ordered sat at the port for 3 weeks until they aluminum oil caps showed up. They wouldn't send the cars to the dealerships without them.

Suspension details

Does anyone know more specific details on some of the 2010 suspension changes? If they re-spec'd or revalved the shocks, and those fit on earlier MS# models, I'd be quite interested....

Didn't read the rest of the thread, but the MS oil cap is installed by the dealer as part of their final inspection. Same applied to the 1st gen MS3's.

And the '10 oil caps are a different size than the 1st Gen's!!!
