Hesitation is driving me crazy, so i made an appt. for the reflash which will run me $96.00. This price got me thinking it is probably better to spend another $300 and get something like the split second afc. Thing is, i really know nothing when it comes to this engine management stuff and I cant afford to pay someone. All my mods as of yet I have done myself, but they are mostly bolt-ons. I guess my question is how complicated is the install/tuning with an afc device?

how are they charging you $96 for something that was a TSB? It should be free....

It's easy. just use the base tune that comes with it and you shouldn't have any problems. It's pretty easy to use as long as you have a wideband if you do want to play with it though.

car is out of warranty, i bought used with 60k, $96 is for their hourly rate

Its best to add ems to a non-flashed MSP. All the flash does is add timing, which does not mix with increased boost.

just FYI. i got mine reflashed and it still hesitates....pretty noticable in 2nd/3rd gear if im driving normal. If i have it punched it doesnt really do it.

Also, shifting in low RPMs in 1st to second and second to 3rd i get a slight back fire. probably because its too rich

Get it flashed now so its has better driveability than it does now. Get an AFC later if you go that route. There are plenty of how to's on here for installation and a few tuning suggestions. You could also have it tuned professionally. I'm flashed and have no problems running increased boost.

i think im just gonna get it flashed, turns out i know the service manager and it will only cost me $50 not $96 which is better in comparison to $400 for an AFC. I'm currently boosting at 7.5-8psi (no boost controller), and with a few more additions plan to take it to 10psi, no higher, id much rather throw that $400 towards an exhaust :)

GL, but i dont think it will fix your problem. You WILL need an AFC to rid the problem...

Worst 100$ i spent on the car so far was reflashing.

IF your car is stock, it could work. If you have any mods, it will not..........

A TSB is just a note from Mazda saying "we know there's a problem--here's what it is and how to fix it." After warranty expiration they can charge whatever they usually do for dealer services. It's not a recall--It's still up to the owner to bring in the car.
