SO
I rebuilt my engine.
It's in spec
It's in time
I've checked
Then I checked again
Then again, and again and again....

Started the engine....blowing exhaust out the intake, stumbles, dies

Retimed the engine.
checked timing
Check again
And again
and again

Started engine....still doing same thing

NOW

I have the FS-ZE Intake cam
I also have the Corksport Exhaust cam

STOCK CAM GEARS
STOCK ECU FOR AUTOMATIC TRANS

...now, if I'm timed up correctly (According to OE cam timing for the DE) is the cam timing off?
The engine isnt so far out that it's not starting at all. Spins over easy and acts like it wants to start...then sputters, kicks exhaust out the intake, and dies...
SO...my intake valves are either open at the the end of the exhaust stroke, or they're opening on the combustion stroke...

help?

Are you running those cams with a stock ECU? If so, that might be your problem. Otherwise ( and I know you checked this) its timing. Even if the cams are where they should be, the crank might be off, that's the problem I have in my PGT right now. Damn thing starts up but sputters and dies, cams are spot on but the crank is off by one tooth.

The cam gears? Not just the markings on the cams but the locating pegs on the end must be correct

Hmm, are you sure the stock ECU can run those cams? If the cam profile is significantly different over stock, your car will run like piss, heck it won't run at all if the cam profile is different enough.

That's exactly what he is asking lmao. The ZE cams and CS cams are not very aggressive and very close to stock, the ECU should run them fine.

See, I didn't think the cams were so aggressive that the ECU wouldn't be compatible. I mean if you can drop a ZE engine into an auto car and it run (Albeit not at full potential), but still run without issue...I SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN THESE CAMS.

This is correct way to install gears correct?

Yes, that is the correct orientation. <-- EDIT: Actually I'm doubting myself now. You'd think as many times as I've had an FS disassembled and reassembled I'd remember...

I saw this same thing happen a couple of weeks ago, actually...

The intake and exhaust camshafts were swapped...... Not saying that's what your problem is, but it's worth a look.

That actually does sound like a possibility if exhaust is backfiring through the intake.
