Ebay CX-5 Door Scuff Protector. Not Bad.

^Ordered mine on 1/30 and they have not arrived yet. I think they indicated it takes about a month since they come from China. I like the look of the OEM ones better but they are a lot more $$$. The important thing to me was these cheaper ones have a lip that goes over the door sill which is where you can really mess up the paint.
Received them today. They are kind of cheap but not too bad looking considering the price. Very thin but they do have the 3M adhesive tape that most automotive accessories have on them. There is some kind of horrible smell to them, it must a preservative. It actually made my eyes water. They are airing out in the garage for a couple of days before they go on the car.

I didn't think they look too bad. I think they should have put some double faced tape on each end otherwise dirt and moisture will get under them and create a rust environment. I will probably put some good silicone around the perimeter.
I had some commercial grade silicone adhesive left when I built my aquarium so I put some on each end and also in the middle. Then I sealed under the perimeter. This should keep the moisture out and keep them from falling off.

My eBay $25 plates arrived today. I am not happy with them. I have purchased from eBay many times and this is the 1st disappointment. I have left negative feedback. So, BUYERS BEWARE!
1. They are shipped from China, not from Singapore as advertised.
2. The rubber edges smells/stinks like hell. I am going to air them for a few days and see what happen.
3. The material is aluminum, not stainless steel as advertised.
4. Although the package is sealed in plastic bag, the plates for front seats already have dents and scratches (this is the deal breaker). I don't know how to bend it back to a flat plate before installation.
Because of the dents, I don't feel that they do justice to my new CX-5. I will probably not install them, or resort to buying OEM.

I ordered a set of LED lit type from aliexpress (china import site). Hopefully I don't encounter those issues. http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/216934940.html $52 after shipping. I like these bcause the letters are flush, and not in a tacky looking matrix (at least an exposed matrix).
If they are stainless steel then a magnet will stick to them, if aluminium they won't.
Geoff, I ordered from the same vendor as you did. How do you like yours?

I have these plates too, and while I didn't want to put a damper on my general happiness with CX-5, I agree with the above.
They look cheap (although I thought to put them up was better than nothing, at least would protect from scratches); they stink like crazy (not anymore after several months of driving); if you looked closely there were little chips and scratches (I overlooked that because again, I wanted to put them up for protection); I did not check what metal it is.
I want to report that one plate already fell off. Granted, it's on the back seat and the one my daughter always steps on when getting out of the car, but still!!! I'm waiting for a warmer weather to get more 3M tape and put it back again. In short, they are a pain in the butt!!!

Mine are fine.... I haven't tested them to see if they are ali or s/s, but they look the part and they protect the corner of the painted cill with the turned down edge..... They did smell when they arrived, but I wiped them down with white spirits and that seemed to help.... I added some extra bits of 3m double sided tape at each end and beside the raised logo.... All in all i'm happy with them.

This is an update of my door sill issues. This weekend, since I figured that it was not economical to return the door sills to China, I decided to install them in the plastic part of the car door (see photos of NinjaNoises) to see how they work out.
1. Well, after 1 week of airing in my patio, the door sill still stinks. The smell is from the glue that the manufacturer glued the rubber edge to the metal plate. I used 70% rubbing alcohol and managed to remove most of the odor after a few repeated wipes. After leaving them in the hot sun for 1 afternoon, the odor seemed unnoticeable.
2. I tried to use the alcohol to remove the glue stains on the metal part of the sill, but was not successful. I next tried Goo Off. It removed about 70% of the stain marks. I am still unable to remove a few patches.
3. I used the alcohol to clean the metal and plastic parts of the door where the sill was to be installed. This was to remove any oil. Waited for the alcohol to be evaporated.
4. Put the door sill on the edge of a concrete floor, stepped hard, put my full body weight on them to straighten the banned parts. I could not make them back to the original flatness, but they looked better now.
5. Next I peeled off the adhesive sticker covers (M33, not 3M brand). The driver seat plate could not stick firmly. I ran down Lowes to buy a roll of 3M adhesive tape to reinforce the original tapes (as recommended by a reader of this forum). Still did not stick firmly. I think this is partly because of the uneven surface of the plate, and partly due to the adhesive strength of the tapes (even 3M). In fact the front passenger side popped off by itself after a few hours.
6. As the last resort I bought a pack of HandiTak from Big Lots for $1 (the sticky cray type of thing). Put it between the adhesive tapes. I stepped hard on the sills to use my body weight to force the HandiTak to do is job. It worked. When I applied slight pressure to try to pull out the plates, they seemed to stick firmly. I will see how they do in a week.

I put mine on a week ago and used some commercial grade silicone adhesive that I had left over from a previous project. They are not going to come off, in fact I'm not sure how I would get them off if I had to. They aren't the best quality, but they look ok. The tape that they come with is only on the top and bottom surfaces. I think it is important to seal the ends to prevent moisture and dirt from getting under the plates.

I recieved Chinese door sills, mud flaps, and a Mazda key fob cover yesterday, from a EBay vendor purchased on Feb 19. I am impressed by the quality of the Door sills. I was expecting to be disappointed. I can see that doubling up the moulding adhesive would help because of the slightly raised rubber trim that would keep the tape from making solid contact. For $25, no scratches, no pre install damage. The turned edge is exactly where the shoe marks are on my car already.
