E-brake trick - Does it actually work?

HERE IS THE QUESTION THOUGH... how hard does the break need to be pulled. 1 click did nothing for me when i had winter tires on. in awd you could feel them chattering not to mention the tcs would cut power. i did 1 click on the ebreak and it was the same story. 2 clicks, 3 clicks and nothing was happening.

so how far do you need to pull or how hard do the brakes need to be grabbing in order for the car to be fwd only? would pulling it too far not result in your car being slower?

would pulling the plug from the rear clutch infront of the diff acomplish the same thing?

Brakes, particularly the cable/linkage that goes to the back for parking brakes, are wear and tear items. If the cable is out of adjustment, you won't engage the switch needed to disengage the differential.

Apparently disabling TCS is the key.

I had my car up on jackstands earlier this week changing diff, tranny and TC fluids, and out of curiosity, I started her up to see how the drivetrain would act with the handbrake at 4 clicks.

With the engine idling, I slipped it in first and gently let out the clutch. The front wheels began spinning slowly.....no motion from the rears. Then I laid my foot on the gas and gently gave it some light throttle. WHAM! The rear diff engaged, the wheels lunged against the parking brake and it killed the engine. What I forgot to do is test this with the TCS turned off, but some of the guys on another Mazda forum said it wouldn't have done this if I'd turned TCS off first.

My switch disengages TCS and the whole rear diff and can burn rubber a block long with just roasting the front tires.

Hell yeah, let's see this video. How do you feel about a quick explanation of how you rigged the switch? I'd feel a hell of a lot more comfortable hitting a switch then trying to find the magic number of clicks with my e-brake while doin a run.

pull your spare tire, back seats and all that jazz then you will have lost almost 100 lbs. 100 lbs lost is like gaining 10hp. remove all the s*** you dont need and it will still be fast enoguh.

yea idk about the whole gti thing.. i easily spanked my friends 08 gti(intake) on a closed course... maybe ur bpv is leaking cuz that happens..

Possible I guess, I haven't been under the hood since I installed the TIP and checked everything out a few times. What's the easiest way to check without being able to pressure test or anything like that?

Nvm, I'm picking up an HKS now anyway. I've been doin a little research and it seems like the stock BPV's leak a little when they're brand new. Chances are mine's leaking worse.

Oh and the handbrake up one click works, try it your self, put it up one click in first gear and mash the throttle sometimes it takes 2 clicks to disengage the AWD.

I can also attest to this. One click, TCS off, mashing down the pedal, and you've got yourself a smoke machine

Also, I've done the e-brake trick while driving and I do notice a bit more "oomph" that is unleashed.

well i just went out and tried this and i for one can say that it works. my 6 turned into a FWD smoke machine.

NOW here is ANOTHER question... could this in result damage something? maybe the rear suspension, TCS, or maybe the rear diff?
If this is 100% safe I am soooo doing this lol

I highly doubt that killing power to the rear diff is going to cause any damage in any way.

Follow the link I posted a few comments up from yours, it's ridiculously easy to make this switch. And yeah if you turn the TSC off and pull the ebrake up until the light comes on it will have the same effect as the switch. You're not going to feel any difference driving though like some of these people have said, it doesn't make the car take off like someone said a page or two ago. But if you're trying to burn rubber you'll see the difference.

You're not going to feel any difference driving though like some of these people have said, it doesn't make the car take off like someone said a page or two ago. But if you're trying to burn rubber you'll see the difference.

dude i turned off the tcs nd pulled the ebrake 1 or 2 clicks and nothing. floored it in first and i still rocket launch.. wtf i dont get it?

honestly i've never tried spinnin the front tires with this switch, ask the two dudes above who said they turned their cars into smoke machines.

anyybody??? i know that if the car is strictly in ftd mode the front wheels start spinning as soon as you spool. Also the car feels like it has more balls and is funner to drive. I know this because when i just got the car my whole cluster was lit up after the accident in was in, therefore my awd didn't work.
how are you even sure its in fwd if you didnt spin wheels?

Try to no lift shift. See if it's driver mod?
