About to leave to go dyno test my car for the 1st time.... hit 20k miles last night, so i figured i better go find out what kinda power and a/f im making.

Boost is at about 11-12... 3in exhaust, hard pipes, intake are my main power mods.

Im hoping for 185-195hp and 180-190tq. :D

Wish me luck on the big numbers!

good luck for big numbers, but at 11-12 psi, i personaly will say you should be closer to 205hp with the mods you have..keep us posted (2thumbs)

This just in.. its 90 degrees outside... so my numbers will probably be lower than i thought.
Figures it would get hot again after being in the 70's for most of the past 2 weeks.

Anyways... im on my way out right now. I'll take pics and stuff. :D

good luck I dynoed in nashville at 94 deg ahd got 167whp and 198ftlbs of tq. hope you do better than me

Results are in... will have videos and pics up sometime soon.

1st run 197.7hp / 194.6tq
2nd: 190.5/193.6
3rd: 184.3/184.1

Had some weird issues with leaning out and knock. 1st run was off the chart rich until 5000 when it came up to 11 or so.
2nd run started mid 11s and climed up to high 12s.
3rd run started high 11s and went to almost 14.

Had knock on 2 and 3. Im guessing some of it is the heatsoak from the stock i/c. But i sprayed it down as much as possible and let it sit 10 minutes between runs.

Ohh well, i need to get that SAFC2 on, and a walbro pump.

I'll have some pics and maybe a vid or two up as soon as i have a chance.
:D

You really really need a FMIC. I bet that thing could roast a turkey in 3 minutes with it being 90 out.

Dyno'd at Clemon's Performance in New Albany, In.
Id say its 4.5 hours from Nashville, but its just right up i65. ;)

Just speculating on numbers... im thinking about 205hp on a cooler day, or about 210 with an FMIC.

h

good numbers i put down 201 whp 207 tq @ 9psi my air fuel was 12.1 4th gear to 6100 is that two lean are ok i hear so many conflicting stories out there i didnt hear any knock that i know of this was back in april at 85 degrees anyone chime in on air fuel for the mazadspeed i know sometimes you cna still knock with good air fuel ratios anyway posty on

did they have a fan?
Yea, but there wasnt a way to position it really in front of the i/c to stop some of the heat soak.

Mid 12s are still fairly rich, and im not sure why exactly i was knocking. Boost was only 11 or so.

The main thing i dont understand is why the a/f changed so much. Run 1 was RICH, two was ok, and 3 was lean.
I even adjusted the boost controller down on run 3 to try and solve it. With only 3 pulls and no way to tune, not much i can really do but get a walbro and to install the AFC.

Has anyone else noticed similar problems on the dyno like this? I know heatsoak happens, but why did the a/f change so much?

just because your a/f is rich definately won't stop knock by any means, just helps to prevent it, your timing could be too much, bad gas, etc...lots of reasons for knock =)

I see you have a FCD. If you had it hooked up and you experience knock or pinging at high RPM then it is probably the culprit. It will alter the timing and fuel maps causing the pinging. I found that out when I dynoed my car. I now have a switch inline with the FCD so I can turn it on and off when needed. I mainly use it when I'm on race gas so I turn it on then.

The FCD changing timing might explain some knock on the 2nd run, but it doesnt explain why the fuel map leaned out more and more. I might have to put the FCD on a switch like you suggested though. I also will now always dyno on race gas or at least with Xylene in the tank.
This was just a kind of spur of the moment thing though. I was off work and didnt know i was going until about 90 minutes before. No time to go get the good gas.

I really wish i could have datalogged these runs to explain what was going on with my car.

Ohh well, next time i go back i will be more prepared, and with more fuel support mods.

I had an FCD for about 1 day. It would cause pinging even at stock boost levels. The problem with FCD's is that they clamp the amount of air that the ECU sees, so once it hits that clamp, no more fuel is added to compensate for the additional air, which will cause a lean condition and detonation. That's why I took it off and sold it after about 15 minutes of testing. Unless you have something to take over fuel delivery compensation after the clamp, don't use an FCD.

Well I experienced the same as you when I dynoed my car on pump gas. I spoke with Joe P in regards to the pinging. He told me that the when the MAF signal is altered the ECU will compenstate by adding timing and pulling fuel. He said that the DSM guys experienced the same problem when using anything that messed with the MAF signal (ie. FCD's, AFC's, etc.) Joe P also said he had the same pinging on pump gas with his car at 11psi. With me my threshold was 8 psi since I only had the downpipe and stock exhaust. So I would ping at 8 psi on pump gas with the FCD turned on but when I turned off the FCD voila no more pinging. So now I only used the FCD when on race gas. Just becareful as the pinging can't be heard if you have a real loud exhuast. I could hear mine since I still had the stock cat back.
