Dyno Numbers

Had my MSP dyno'd today at Vishnu Performance Systems with the almighty Shiv Pathak operating the dyno!
FYI: Vishnu uses a Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer that usually reads 7-15% lower than other dynos ( dyno jets ect).

http://www.vishnutuning.com/dynolab.htm

I'll try to get the graph scanned soon.

138 hp @ 6200
121 ft lbs@ 5800

Did you get the data logging for the additional $15 or did you cheap-out after paying the $75 for the standard dyno run?

If all MSP's get those numbers, I'll definately never buy one.

but still 138 whp.....thats kinda sad with all the upgrades figure in the average of about 12% lower and thats still only aroung 153 for a turbo kit intercooler with upgraded clutch and everything....thats kinda crappy considering a Spool stage one with no intercooler at only 4.5 psi makes 165 whp......no MSP for me thank you.

Which is still..
148-159 hp @ 6200
129-139 ft lbs@ 5800
which is pretty inefficient as compared to an aftermarekt turbo for the n/a 2.0l.

I didn't mean to start anything by posting that, I was just saying that those specific results really suck ass. I guess that I really won't be satisfied with 160whp.

one of the magazines that i read said that they put it on the dyno and got 151hp and 150lbs of torque. Not to bad but not as good as a spool stage one. I imagine that the spool kit uses a better intake and intercooler. probably a better down pipe with only one cat also. I'm sure with a new exhaust, downpipe, cat, intake that there will be plenty of power freed up.

Nope .. it was a dyno day at Vishnu.
50 bucks a couple pulls and a print out.

Yes the Spool kit makes more power on an MP3.
I dont know why But my numbers are dead on with mazdas flywheel rating if not a bit higher. Its almost the same as sport compacts dyno #s except for my torque is lower.

how much hp did you really think this car would have with a rating of 170?? Tell me you didnt honestly think it would just magically make more than it was rated ?

150+ at the wheels......okay. I had read similar numbers in magazines. I'm not racing, and I think more in the useable power mentality. A new car for $20,500 - the MAZDASPEED is my choice - period. No other car has a more complete package, when everything is considered.

Now; if I was one to add upgrades like complete Turbo kits, blowing the warranty all to hell, that might be different. To me, and this is just my opinion; the MAZDASPEED does it all, and does it quite well.

I will see what MAZDASPEED is offering down the road, as I have said before, but for now, I am quite content, and really enjoying this unique car.

Cheers!

Well s***, I agree, I was just making sure everyone was aware of that fact.

What is everyone complaining about? Who cares what the dyno says (other than to get a baseline)? It is a fast car, whether the dyno says 1 HP or 1000 HP. The performance #'s (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc.) don't lie. For those of you who buy cars just based on the numbers, well, .
170 HP - 15% driveline losses for argument sake (25.5 HP) = 144.5 WHP.
"7-15% lower than other dynos" means the dyno would read 7-15% lower than 144.5 HP, which is between ~134.5 WHP and ~123 WHP. So BoOsTiN's #'s are fine, quite good actually. It would seem my estimate of driveline loses is on the high side, or BoOsTiN's car is a nice strong example.
I think some of you have to stop living your life a quater mile at a time... ;)

Hey Julio it was nice meeting you at our meet! Thank you for letting me drive your MSP, very nice car and looks fantastic in black. Now to the dyno results everyone please understand that our dyno reads a little lower(accurately) then a dynojet does. FYI we dynoed a modifed WRX at our location, and at a dynojet within 30 minutes to see the differences between the two. On the AWD dynojet the WRX made 276 wheel horsepower, then on our dyno the same car made 224 wheel horsepower. That is a 18% change which is a quite large. Now Boostin's Protege made 138 wheel horsepower. On our dyno here are a few stock FWD cars and the horsepower they made for reference:

Integra Type R : (195 flywheel) 153 wheel horsepower
Nissan Sentra SER V Spec: (175 flywheel) 129 wheel horsepower
VW Jetta 1.8T (180 flywheel) 155 wheel horsepower

As you can see 138 wheel horsepower translates to 170 flywheel horsepower on our dyno and perhaps a little more.

Julio my 323 GT did 220 wheel horsepower at 15 PSI for reference. Hope to see you again at the next meet.

First those numbers do seem a little low, but you have to take in all the factors that could cause that. IE... the temp out side and elevation. Then also our exhaust is really restrictive, his/hers is stock(i think), mazda is not trying for big hp numbers more a complete car. if you want high hp, change out the exhaust, up the boost from 7psi to around 9psi, get hard piping.... ( and all this would cost a lot less then the spool stage one/ maybe even stage 2.)

If I cared about 1/4 mile times and raw horsepower, I would be driving something with a V-8. Why waste time and money with a 4cyl?

Mazda has tried to make a complete package. Numbers are great and all, but drive the car, and numbers don't matter so much no more. All you guys with your spoolin/Begi setups, I'm jealous. If I had the money and the know how, sure, I'd have one too. But, only time will tell if these aftermarket setups are too much for these engines. Something else to consider, and you have NO warranties.

I've set it before, I'll say it again. I have a hard time believing that this car is done yet. Various Mazda sources has told us on numberous accounts that the Mazdspeed aftermarket support is not going to be selling s*** like stickers, and lightbulbs. Expect to see the potential of this car go up at least a little in the near future.

Mazdaspeeed made the car with that much hp for a reason. I believe they did this because the trany is the same as the regular protege well... besides the cluch but anyways they used the very restrictive exust from the regular proteges and an intercooler from the diesel proteges in europe. If you change those to things i beleive you will see some moderate horse power gains but back to the tranny I hate to admit it but i love to drive vehicles harder than anyone I know. By the time my 2002 ES had 23 000km it was in for new cluch and tranny parts oops. Now my friend has my car and i am getting very close to geting my mazdaspeed. I am going to try so hard not to drive this car as hard as the other one but more hp equals dead tranny:'(
