Is that software or what??
yeah, just do a search on Yahoo or Google for it. They are a little difficult to use at first, but not too bad. Lots of FAQs out there too.

So, for the basic idea of wanting to copy ("back-up") a dvd, is there a huge diference between spending $40 for a program vs. $100+??

Okay, I'm a dumbass....I just realized that my new computer doesn't even have a DVD-ROM drive. It's just a goddamn CD-ROM...So here's a new question. Can I pull the DVD-ROM drive from my old Compaq, and copy the files it needs, and re-install it on my new Compaq without any trouble?? I'm broke right now, and don't see the point in buying a new drive when I have one sitting in a non-used computer. I might as well use it. So, is it possible??

if you gat windows XP on the new computer, all you need is to take the drive out of the old one and put it in the new comp. you don't need any files or anything, If it is windows XP.

Umm, if I remember correctly, the old one was the office edition(proffesional?) or something...The new one is Home edition...Does that make a difference??

if you want to copy, backup, burn or whatever with your DVDs you need a DVD-R/RW DVD+R/RW drive, not a DVD-ROM .. that will only let you read/play DVDs..

if you just want to rip the DVD movie to your computer's hard drive, your DVD-ROM should do the trick..

makes no difference in this instance.. professional vs home edition just means the home edition will not allow you to connect to a corporate domain/network..

The new computer came with a DVD burner, just not a DVD rom drive. Thats why i asked about the swap from my old computer...

The DVD Burner should also be a DVD rom Drive. I only have a Normal burner which also reads normal cd's and DVD's. Your comp should be able to tell you what it can and can't do. Oh, as for software I use Nero Burner or Alcohol 120%. Both work excelent for me in burning images and what not. I love these programs. I also have Disc Juggler( which also is a good program ) and various other programs. It all depends on what you want to do. From all theses I like to burn images of DVD's and CD's with Alcohol 120% and make Music CD's w/ Nero Burner cuz I can add CD Text for the car radio.

If I was wrong in my answer and you meant that you need another drive to burn, you don't. You can copy an image with the same DVD Burner and then Burn it to another DVD in the same drive. The comp will prompt you when it needs an unwritten DVD or CD to burn it.

If you want to copy DVD's then I recommend CloneDVD. Burning DVD's, you can use a lot of things. Even Nero can burn DVD's.
